I really thought it would be similar to DVD... guess I'll have to go back to the newbie section and do some more reading

It's one of THE greatest things about Blu-ray. Movies are 24p wherever they come from. I have Blu-ray releases from Hong Kong and the UK. And it looks like Germany, and Scandinavian are other possible sources for titles that get around the Blu-ray embargo or expand one's horizons.
