Titanic 4K UHD (1997)

Picking mine up at UPS tomorrow morning. It’s at my local customer center now but they won’t let me pick it up until tomorrow.

Here are two 70mm frame scans - I had to scan one side, then scan the other side and then join the image files together as the film cell size was a bit big for the scanner slot

(Also included - some 35mm anamorphic frames from a release print, to compare the cropping. Note, we do see a bit more picture information around the edges of the 70mm frame)

My Best Buy order arrived a day early. As a major fan of the film, I just wanted to express how marvelous I think it looks. Turned it off grinning from ear to ear. As someone who can still remember owning and watching this on two VHS tapes, we've come such a long way. If True Lies, Aliens, and The Abyss are anywhere on this level, then March is going to be a lovely month.

My collectors edition arrived and I am going to return it. I tried defending the price before but this is just ridiculous how little you are getting for your money. It will definitely drop a lot in time and then I'll grab it then.

I'm confused, isn't there supposed to be a BD included? Says UHD + digital code on the cover.

Not in the US, the BD that is in the set is extras only no movie.

Saw the entire film on Sunday. After a while the awe of the PQ wears off, like you usually do with films shot on digital cameras. Not necessarily because I'm deep into the story, saw it too many times. The Dolby Atmos mix was good but not entirely satisfying, not as enveloping as I expected and the bass as I said earlier is a bit shy.

Do you prefer movies shot on film over digitally shot ones? Movies shot on digital can look just as awesome as movies shot on film, such as Blade Runner 2049.

A theatrical mix is not meant to be heard in the space of most home environments.

There is a whole mess in regards to levels and EQ and how the audio interacts in such an environment but the essential is that it is mastered for large spaces.

Boy........Cinema DTS is DA BOMB, in terms of clarity and loudness, compared to most Dolby/DTS soundtracks we got over the years on DVD.
Even for dialogue-driven movies, there's just so much clarity that it's definitely very noticeable even at low volume levels.

Forget about -3db Surround Channels attenuation, Dialog Normalization and compression.
As long as you don't live in a flat with complaining neighbors, you'll be fine.

The Subwoofer certainly wasn't shy to push the T-Rex stomps on the first Jurassic Park, and it certainly wasn't when the TITANIC dropped at the bottom of the ocean.
They made my windows rattle, literally.

Aliens came out only with a Stereo Dolby mix.
No surround or DTS surround was made for cinema.

Hey everyone! Apologies if this was discussed before, but how is the color grading on the 4K release? The same as the blu-ray, or closer to the original 1997 mastering? Is there also any way to get a high-def copy of the original 1997 mastering? I strongly prefer the original Paramount logo and sunset, among other details. Thank you!
