Default GT5 Prologue won't be free?!?

It looks like Sony will be charging us for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. This is pretty sad. I mean we are expected to pay for what is essentially a demo? What are your thoughts?

Even if it was only a demo - I think the Prologue will be really, really good. Maybe, Sony will work out a deal so that people that own Prologue will get a discount on Gran Turismo when it is released.

I'm sorry but I still don't think we should be charged for the priviledge of playing this game early. If it is $40, we are paying that much for less than half the finished product? Unless Sony discounts owners of Prologue for the purchase of the final game this is nothing but a glorified microtransaction. Most 360 owners have experienced this nonsense. Horse armor anyone? Sony should just release it as a public beta. I know mentions of Halo 3 usually get flamed but they let people play 3 levels with full weapons and vehicles for free. I think Sony can do the same.

Prolouges have never been free.

You are paying a small price for 30-40% of the game, most of which will transfer over to the full game.

Key Features:

* The first ever Gran Turismo title with online racing: drive online against up to 16 other Gran Turismo aces
* Race a total of over 40 stunning, high-performance cars
* Race on seriously realistic, real life tracks including the Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka – then race them in reverse and with alternative routes
* All-new physics engine means true next-generation vehicle handling
* All-new and improved opponent AI for a nail-biting race experience
* Access to Gran Turismo TV : a world of great motoring TV programming online
* Online Dealership: Access to car manufacturers online
* My Garage - a personalised homepage feature with friends, chat and personal game records
* Quick Tune facility allows you to adjust power, tyres, suspension and more
* All in stunning High Definition at 1080p (race: 1080p-60fps, replay: 1080p-30fps)

Gran Turismo 5 – the full title – launches in 2008. Until then, there’s enough ultra-realistic, high-speed racing in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on PS3™ to keep your accelerator firmly to the floor for the rest of the year. http://www.scee.presscentre.com/Cont...9&NewsAreaID=2

The last GT4 prolouge sold over 1 million copies and it was not released in the US because people think it's a scam.

Excuse me but this is not whining. I offered information to gather public opinion. They will get paid when they release the full version.

Considering that this 'demo' is bigger than most games, I think it is fair.

I didn't even think that the US were getting this, they don't normally get the prologue versions.

exactly. prolouge was not cheap to make, it cost as much as many games. if you want to play the "full" version of gt5 with all the dl content that will be availiable look to spend well over a hundred dollars. you pay what you get for. gt5 will be an amazing game, but it will come at a steep price.

If you don't like it - don't buy it. Wait for the full game.

It's quite likely some of the content in GT5 Prologue will be unique to Prologue though.

Gran Turismo 4 Prologue was sold at a reduced price in the UK, that is why I'd hold off on getting upset about this news as I wouldn't put it past any site to post news like this to build up a bit of controversy.

Then don't buy the Prologue.. Simple as that. They already released GT HD free.

Wink Do your research...

First of all this is NOT the first Gran Tourismo with the Prologue pre-fix. GT Prologue has existed since GT3 and 4, prologue and has only been released internationally in the past without a US version except the full releases (GT3,4). The same is going to happen for the PS3 GT5 as happened with the past ps2 releases. This title was never intended to be free as NO other versions were free to begin with. It is expected to be distributed like Warhawk (over the psn and blu-ray disc versions). Why do you want a watered down version anyway? I want the game just as bad as you (I love GT-HD).

I don't think there was a GT3 Prologue, just a Concept car standalone expansion released after the full game.
