I think while the actors may have signed off on doing the scenes. I don't know if they signed up to be humiliated like Mastrantonio was w/ as many takes as there wound up being or being cut off from oxygen like Ed Harris was when a mistake was made. I think Mary even vowed to never work with Cameron again after production wrapped.

I think Conan the Barbarian was also edited in the UK and you wound up w/ truncated battle scenes because of the way the Horses were used in those scenes.

It's nice to see people standing up for Animal rights, but after 30+ years maybe it's time to let that one go. Maybe the Abyss rat has family in the UK that would like to finally see his performance, as that was a integral scene to the movie.

The deinterlacing is adequate but not phenomenal.

Without being able to do a direct comparison the OAR repurposed footage looks better than the stand alone original documentary.

Unfortunately, the stand alone version of Under Pressure documentary has not received an updated transfer, and it is potentially a reencode from the DVD.

Also Coffey is not a conventional absolute villain, rather he is an antagonist whose complications with pressure-induced psychosis, High Pressure Nervous Syndrome HPNS, causes him to engage in actions that imperils everyone.

LOL, so this is all about a rat that was made uncomfortable for a few moments 35 years ago? Doing something that was scientifically known to work, because it had actually already been done in labs? So it's OK to do in labs (that governments are likely funding) but not okay to film?

The way people were talking, I thought it actually got graphically murdered on screen or something. I mean, not that it really would make a huge difference, given that the UK government kills millions of rats a year for various reasons, because...they are rats, LOL.

I don't blame them at all for not going to the expense of cutting this and creating an entirely different encode of the movie just to appease something so utterly ridiculous.

Well, we do get to see Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio get slapped around and pounded on for real by Ed Harris... After this scene, she suffered a mental breakdown and almost quit the movie, and refused to promote the film or talk about it again.

If I had to hazard a guess, the situation with the BBFC will ultimately get resolved and The Abyss will be released. Maybe with an on-screen disclaimer or something.

And biologically speaking, humans, as well as many living organisms, have evolved to be carnivores.

What the hell are you talking about? Staring, deeply flawed, what is your problem? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or something! Let’s not start to slag the U.K off now.

True Lies is also BBFC censored.
I don't see this as a loss with the quality they offered.

I guess you'd best avoid A Clockwork Orange, since Malcolm McDowell nearly drowned for real when he was being held down in that trough and most likely suffered a lot more than the rat did. I don't endorse the way the rat was treated, I just find it absurd that after all this time they can't just let it slide with a disclaimer somewhere on the back cover about historical attitudes or something like what Studio Canal does with almost every catalog title.

Well the censors probably sided with the corrupt doctors/government portrayed in Clockwork, so...

Why is it so difficult for people to understand that it is a law passed by Parliament (the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937) that dictates that this cannot be depicted in films exhibited in the UK?

If the BBFC just "let it slide" and someone complained, the release would have to be pulled anyway, fines could be levied and likely the person who let it pass uncut could lose their job.

What happened with Malcolm McDowell or Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio or any other human actor is irrelevant.
