Back on topic...when is Sony gonna give us a DV Steelbook?
A bit late to reply on this but I agree. I debate if I should go ahead and get the 4K or hold out hope that Sony will gives us a DV edition. Though they were anniversary editions, there was a five year gap between Labyrinth for HDR to DV. Though now its been five years since Hook's release (and not an anniversary year.)

This is my favorite Spielberg and yes, I was one of those people who grew up watching it a lot and that is probably why its my favorite. When BBC America airs it, I make sure to have it on. It still hasn't lost its magical touch on me.

I found the current 4K stunning, so if it's a favorite, you won't be disappointed.

I kinda keep hoping for the Sony steelbook trend to come around releasing Hook. I'm not too fond of steelbooks anymore, but if it features that beautiful theatrical poster, I'd get it Day 1.

The absolute disgrace that the song but not the score was nominated. It should've won every award under the Sun and Moon in 1991.

Wasn't Williams up for JFK that year? But I'll do you one better, he hasn't won an Oscar since Schindler's List (1993), which blows my mind. He hasn't won in 30 years.

Worse than that...she was under a lot of stress from relationship break-ups and the press hounding her, and she was just overwelmed, and it showed in her temper on set...She's up in a harness hanging in the air for a shot, and Spielberg is talking with his DP and they're discussing lighting and the camera, and Roberts snapped.

"I'm READY!"

Spielberg looks at her. Says, "And I'm ready. And when he's ready, we'll all be ready."

Boom. Spielberg later said that it was an unfortunate time to work with her. Roberts heard that and said she thought Spielberg had betrayed her with his remark. I dunno, I think she was cast due to star power, and really didn't have much to do. I wonder if they had taken a page from the '53 film, and had Tink as an emotional, even homicidal, bit of a brat, Roberts might have had something to play.

2026 if they're waiting for an anniversary year.

There was a reason her nickname on set was Tinkerhell.

Oh, as an addendum, nothing was going to beat Beauty and the Beast in 1991. Mozart could have risen from the grave and composed and conducted the score for Hook, with the same outcome.

His most iconic and memorable scores of the 90s were Home Alone (1&2) and Jurassic Park. He's continued to pump out good scores since then, but nothing to that level. He's regularly nominated, which is an honor in itself. Based on his output over the last 30 years against other film scores I certainly don't think he's been snubbed.

Haha, fair enough, of course. I confess that of all of Disney's Renaissance films (yes, even Pocahontas), and possibly even the entire main canon, that's the one I've warmed up to the least. Just one of those things...

And the score, outside of that glorious reworking of "VII. Aquarium" from Camille Saint-Sans' The Carnival of Animals in Beauty and the Beast's prologue... eh.

Give me "The Face of Pan" any day.

You're not alone in that...imagine admirers of Fantasia, Pinocchio, Bambi and the visuals of Yellow Submarine, Pink Floyd the Wall, Akira, and the emotional kick to the heart of The Plague Dogs seeing people who know squat about animation and its history proudly proclaiming Beauty and the Beast as the best animated feature of all time. Even as a stoopid 20-year-old, I was calling b.s. on that. But the music in the film is the best thing about it, and it was a cultural freight train carrying the entire film, and knocking everything else, rightly or wrongly (you decide) off the tracks.

Ah, Fantasia... Now THAT would've been an Oscar nomination for Best Picture I would've embraced from day zero!!

It won two Special Achievement Oscars, so...not quite overlooked, but no animated feature got nominated for Best Picture until 1991.

Maybe its an age thing buy I'd definitely say Beauty and the Beast is my first or second favorite Disney animated movie, the other being Aladdin.

My favorite Disney Renaissance films are Hunchback, Pocahontas, and Hercules. Beauty and The Beast is pretty great, sure, as is Aladdin, but oh wow those three? Fabulous. Outside of those I'm very fond of The Rescuers and Alice in Wonderland. Disney's whole 60-70s era is fantastic.

Finally saw this movie this week and while flawed I had a very good time with it. The 4k disc looked really great too, have no issues with it aside from the fact that it could look a smidge better with a new dv encode with a higher bitrate, this one rarely got over 60.
