Of course there's the occasional use of DNR, as always ridiculous and without a slightest sign of logic behind it, like in the scene where Depp pretends to ride a horse - beautifully filmic, grainy medium shots are intercutted with three or four awful, waxy full shots. Fortunately those are very rare and like I already said, most of the movie looks great. As for the alleged black crush, yeah, it was shot this way and it's an aesthetic choice. Simple as that. People became too used to the modern style of digitally shot movies and their color grading, often lacking true blacks, with shadow details being perfectly visible, which I was never a fan of. (with movies like The Batman being an exception) |

I've been putting off watching this one - because it's released by you know who.
But I'd have to agree with the last post. This one is pretty good to great. Bizarre use of DNR in random moments just so you don't forget you're watching a Paramount disc. However, I did notice Lionsgate Entertainment logo after the credits. Maybe they did the authoring - and were contractually obliged to have some unexplainable use of DNR. I can say this one doesn't have that all too common Paramount appearance (i.e. like someone p***ed out of their head worked on it). So I'd recommend it if you're in doubt. |

Cheap *%*#ers including the 17 year old blu-ray with this set rather than a remastered one.

I was checking out the Trading Spaces 4K thread and its been pointed out that "ghosting" is present in it. My Sleepy Hollow 4K had ghosting in it, specifically when Ichabod was walking into Sleepy Hollow at the beginning of the film. And it only happened when Ichabod was walking. I didn't know that was the term for the issue I experienced on my disc, which is why I'm only just now bringing it up.
Did anyone else have this issue? I'm not sure if its a disc issue (there was a small scratch on it), player issue, or TV issue. |

My order on this from Amazon still is there. I don't know why they just don't cancel it unless they plan on getting more.

It surprised me how good this movie looked in 4K, outside of some of the usual Paramount flaws (occasionally fragile encode and some mild and inconsistently applied DNR) and it's not at all shocking how significant the upgrade is from the now 16 year old BD, which I skimmed briefly and noticed how there was constant wobble throughout which this 4K eliminates
I guess the fact it wasn't ever a very grainy production helped with the fact that the encode usually wasn't absolute dogshit One thing I will say though, this movie is the perfect example as to why one should never use trailers as reference to how a movie's theatrical color timing looked, because the trailer was obviously completed before color timing was applied (as pretty much almost all trailers were then and before it) and it does not look right at all, it looks far too vibrant and "natural" instead of having the intended cold blue look that did get used for the final product, to this day I'll never understand why some folks think it's necessary to use trailers for color timing reference Last edited by SpacemanDoug; 12-30-2023 at 11:12 AM. |

I watched this like, a month or two ago I think? Can't remember. Anyway, it's so much better than the Blu but man those Paramount fiddling naggles stick-out like a sore thumb. The audio on it's very nice however!

I agree the movie looked great, but I found the soundtrack good but the vocals were extremely low, had to crank up the talking and crank down the action. Reminded me of a Nolan movie.
