Paramount Top Gun 3

‘Top Gun 3’ In The Works At Paramount Following Tom Cruise Warner Bros Pact

Quote:
Even though Tom Cruise inked a non-exclusive pact at Warner Bros earlier this week, it looks like he’ll continue to be busy with Paramount for some time. Reports tonight are that Top Gun 3 is in development at Paramount with Top Gun:Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger currently writing a draft.

The word is that the project would reunite Cruise with Maverick‘s Miles Teller and Glen Powell as well as producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison. Joe Kosinski, will reportedly either direct or produce.

Cruise is currently shooting Mission: Impossible 8 for Paramount. Also brewing over at Universal is the actor’s outer space movie with Nasa, and Doug Liman directing.

Puck had the news about Top Gun 3 tonight, and they’re speculating that it could be the 3x Oscar nominee’s potential next project after Mission: Impossible 8. Even without Top Gun 3, it will be a challenge for Cruise to get anything off the ground at Warners for a couple of years.

Top Gun: Maverick is the highest grossing movie of Cruise’s career at $1.49 billion. It won one Oscar last year for Best Sound and was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture.

What’s really glaring in tonight’s news is that Ellison’s Skydance, which is circling to scoop up National Amusements in an all-cash bid, was a producer on Top Gun: Maverick. The Shari Redstone-led exhibitor controls nearly 80% of Paramount shares and is the gatekeeper for any M&A deal.

Deadline reached out to Paramount for comment.

Tom Cruise's success depends on sequels. He's not a real movie star.

Of course it is. A film doesn't make over a billion dollars and the studio says that's enough.

Not to bring Leo up again, but explain why Titanic 2 isn't a thing?

I wonder how much Tom is going to get paid for this. I mean he asked for a big paycheck last time Paramount didn't give it to him, he got first-dollar gross and he walked away with 100 million dollars.

I'm not sure what they could do with Rooster considering he already had a good arc in Maverick, but I'm certainly interested.

After reading an article about it I would actually love to see a third film that is a prequel set in the early-70s during the start of the Top Gun program.

Mwynn and Blub will be gutted they didn't get in first with this thread lol.

This is great news, loved Maverick like most people and I'm really hyped for a third one. Glad they're bringing Powell back too.

the story should center around maverick passing the torch to a young female pilot.

Top Gun: Maverick felt like the perfect storm, I can't imagine they'll be able to come close to it, quality or box office wise. Like, where could they even go with it? straight up war?

So they're holding this thing by its ankles to see what loose change will fall out its pockets?

Almost forty years of anticipation created an audience for TGM, essentially a retread of TG with the trench run "borrowed" from Star Wars. They got away with it. Nobody is talking about TG any more. Its' done.

Who the hell wants to see a sexagenarian fighter pilot?

Creative bankruptcy personified.

I’m not a huge fan of the guy really and wasn’t even a top gun fan. But, I got dragged to TGM and had a good time. It was sort of the antithesis of your usual Hollywood movie. All red meat, oozing machismo, no BS or added crap that had no business being there. Excellent.

That being said, it’s hard to imagine what they’ll do here with a third entry. Like someone said, I hope they don’t have him pass the torch to some wussy 25 year old.

A big portion of the audience for this would be probably happy watching Maverick strafe Pride marches, foodbanks and polling stations.

It sank, that's why.

But they could do a sequel called Britannic or Olympic, but the latter would be less impressive as it didn't sink heroically.

And Tom Cruise is a movie star, whether he does franchises or not.

I assume he'll be training more rookies along with Goose's son, including a sing-along in a bar, and they successfully bomb a bunch of Houthi rebels towards the end.
