possessor comes out pre vaccine when theatres are just opening up again in some areas, and green room comes out before the cult of A24 fans exists. neon feels like A24, but without the obsessive fans. Quote:
neon actually played it uncut without issue because nothing was being booked at the time. i don’t think the cut version played anywhere theatrically. it might have just been for wal mart and hulu. (speculation. maybe someone might know) |

The uncut version was shown at Sundance, then it received cuts for an R-rating and was shown in US theaters that way. It wasn't shown uncut theatrically in the USA till its double-screening with Infinity Pool last year. The UK got it uncut theatrically. The R-rated cut is on some streaming services along with the uncut version. The uncut version runs 44 seconds longer with some alternate scenes. There's no reason to watch the cut version, granted it's only 44 seconds I can't imagine watching it without the extra footage. It's extra gnarly as the film is supposed to be.

This is just my personal opinion, it doesn't have any sway on what Second Sight do:
But I personally can't bring myself to care about a watered down version that was made to satisfy the prissy demands of a bunch of puritan film censors in the USA. I don't think there was any artistic purpose behind making it, was there? It's just something that was done to keep those poor sensitive people happy and allow the film to play in US theaters. It's served that purpose, why prolong the silliness by preserving it on disc? Last edited by David M; 01-15-2024 at 05:40 AM. |

The R-Rated version has some alternative shots so its preservation is valuable. They would be nice as an extra.
