Don't cha?!?

[Show spoiler]
Conan is more likely to chop off some heads because he is a fan of James Cameron.

That is a pretty tasty Conan pic. But it's flawed, because it has all these weird black marks across the torso and face. I guess the AI didn't know what to do with the shading.

SO yeah.

I'm so glad James Cameron didn't direct Conan the Barbarian

James Cameron IS a great director. In fact, one of the greatest. However, he shouldn't be involved in any home releases in any of his movies since his opinions on how they should look are WRONG. Grain scrubbing using DNR, AI "enhanced" nonsense, etc. And most film fans agree with this too, it's not just me.

The Aliens BD turned out pretty good.

I can't imagine the actual UHD of Aliens to look worse. I guess we'll find out in a couple of months.

Look at this way: in a hundred years, who's gonna care?
In a hundred years we will be dead, so it won't matter. Sure, that is a nice way to look at it.
But for now, on disc, in 4k I want a film-like transfer of an excellent movie. Not something that looks overly processed, and unnatural (DNR, I'll punch your lights out if we ever meet). You don't find it depressing when great movies like this are out on disc and don't represent the way it looked on film?

But who was involved with the quadrilogy? Seems like Cameron was not directly involved. That was a great set when it came out.

I don't find myself depressed, disappointed at times sure. I would love every release to be perfect, but I know that's a somewhat unrealistic expectation. The 100 years line was from Terminator...

But does agreeing give one the right to say someone shouldn't be involved in their own movies? It seems like for most releases these days we hear "director approved" transfer. Why should Cameron be excluded? So, one has the right not to watch it, one has the right to complain, one has the right not to buy it, but not sure one has the right to demand anything...

The Abyss being available in HD/4K quality would not exist without dedicated consumer demand.

Took decades but here we are.

Shame Aliens looks rather rubbish.

The physical release is not going to change the underlying issues due to the AI processing, that generates artificial details with varying success, and excessive luminosity sharpening.

Sure, the physical release encode will have less compression artifacts of this AI polished turd but an AI polished turd this transfer will remain.

Yes actually cuz people are free to think and say what they want. That said, I disagree with the sentiment he shouldn't get to do what he wants with his movies however. (They're his of course, he can do what he wants at the end of the day) I do agree he's doing them and his fans a disservice by only making his one-true-vision ~remasters~ available and I will keep saying it.

I don't disagree with you... the only thing I disagree w/ in this whole ongoing argument is that the 4K looks worse than the BD + I could do without the personal attacks on JC. But, the other stuff is very fair.

Exactly. Normally I would be the first to say "let's wait to see this on disc before we judge" but as I've said previously - a better encode/bitrate is going to hurt more than it would help. You are just going to see more of this rotoscope, Etch-A-Sketch insanity.

Did not know Jim had lived in NZ for the last four years makes sense why he used Park Road now for the Restorations. Makes one wonder if he had done the restorations in the US if they would have turned out different.

I wonder if its Disney who limited cost of the re master so they used cheaper company. Or Cameron is just lazy.
