I have no idea what to expect here. Whether Koepp's return as screenwriter is a good thing or not, we'll have to wait and see. He did write Jurassic Park, but he also wrote The Lost World, and many fans of that film - myself included - will admit that the script could have been better. But at least people can be relieved Colin Trevorrow and company aren't writing this one.
![]() The most intriguing thing is that it's reportedly going to be something of a soft reboot. No Trevorrow, no returning cast members. Still part of the same continuity as the Park and World movies, though. I wonder if this means it will explore the world where dinosaurs exist in the wild, or if they'll explain that the animals were all rounded up and captured? I can find things to enjoy about the World trilogy, but preferably I'd like to see a shift in tone for this one. Less over-the-top and goofy, take it a bit more seriously. Dial back the scale, don't try as hard to make it big and epic. Depict the dinosaurs in a more animal-like manner like the original three (especially first two) movies did. Did you not see The Lost World? The T. rexes are more about family than the raptors ever were! |

Every time another soulless studio movie based on an IP gets made.

Personally, I'd let the series rest awhile. I couldn't even make it through the last one.
But here's an idea - why not do a Planet of the Apes and take it to the future where dinosaurs rule the land and humankind is the minority? |

There was an episode of Voyager where Dinosuars bailed out and evolved.

The fact that they’re getting the writer of two of the original three films back is giving me strong The Force Awakens vibes off of this announcement.

I don’t consider the return of Koepp to be a guarantee of quality. He wrote Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And also The Lost World, which has good things about it, but the script is definitely not one of them. That’s why there was the inside joke where Spielberg cast Koepp as the guy who gets eaten by the T-Rex in San Diego, credited as “Unlucky Bastard”

With writers, it's always tricky, especially with franchises. I'm sure a lot of what the final product ends up being is at least somewhat studio mandated. It's not necessarily indicative of their talents (though it often can be- they may be hired because they're newer or more willing to play by the rules, etc.) Koepp also wrote the first Spider-Man movie, Panic Room, which a lot of folks really like, etc. His resume is a pretty solid mix of some big hitters, a few stinkers, and a few in-betweens.
The only thing that really worries me is that the Jurassic franchise has long been- not necessarily aimed at, but very kid friendly. They know a huge part of the longevity and draw of the franchise is in the toys, and while dinosaur toys will always sell, regardless of whether there's an accompanying movie, and if said movie is kid appropriate, they also know that parents will want to bring their kids to the movie, and if they can't, that's a chunk of box office gone. So I don't necessarily see too many future Jurassic movies becoming too violent. But a healthy mix like the JP trilogy would be fine (say what you will about 3, but I love it, even if I admit it's not as "good" as the others). I'd love to be proven wrong, however. Give me blood, give me deaths of main characters on the good side, give me "scary" dinos. |

I had zero interest in seeing another movie in the franchise, but I have to admit I'm very curious to see what David Leitch will do with material.

I like all six films so far, but I honestly don't see where else it can go. The dinosaurs are all freed to co-exist with humans, and trying to re-capture them would feel like too much of a retread. I respect David Koepp as a writer, but I think its best to leave the franchise alone.
