Don't you sometimes smile about DTSMA and how far it's come? There was a time it was villified by the early adopters cause it wasn't accessible cause none of the players were HDMI 1.3 capable, now it seems to be the populist choice.

Just by mentioning DTS-HD MA, a large discussion is almost always guaranteed to start. But I think we have reached the conclusion that it doesn't matter at all that Paramount is switching to the format. Just standardizing which lossless audio studios use. It won't change how their future releases sound at all.

Guess you forgot that the Academy is rating the theater release, not the Blu encodes.

The encodes are direct transfers of the theatrical masters. Transformers was verified on another forum by a sound mixer who actually worked on it, who noted that a lot of bass in that film was sent to the main channels and people who didn't have their systems set up correctly would think it didn't have enough bass.

All I know is that lossless audio sounds better than other formats, even if I don't have my speakers properly set up. But the bass has never lacked during a film with great audio for me.

Well I still think Dolby True HD sounds pretty darn good. Transformers on Blu-Ray sounds awsome. Whatever.

My comment concerned Iron Man, not Transformers.

Iron Man is still a direct transfer as well, from the mix created by Skywalker Sound.

It's the same thing with CBS TV, which also authors in DTS-MA (Star Trek: TOS, CSI, etc). Or when other companies author the disc (Criterion: Benjamin Button, Scott Free: Gladiator)

Paramount Pictures is still TrueHD, so we'll be enjoying Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek, etc. in that codec.
What's the reason for Forrest Gump getting DTS HD?

It's part of the marketing package that's called the "Sapphire Edition." The same reason why Gladiator is getting a DTS-HD MA track as well.

What's this based on?

The audio specs for Braveheart, which is also a "Sapphire Series" release, is TrueHD.

I kinda doubt that it's specific to that line, especially given that DANCE FLICK is also DTSMA. This could indicate a future move to DTSMA by the studio for titles not already announced.

He was talking about Fifth Element.

As for Braveheart not having DTS-HD MA, it's probably due to the fact that Braveheart was finished before Paramout went with DTS.

Well looks like TrueHD may be near-dead soon.... and that might be a good thing. Will probably mean more chance of us getting 7.1 mixes.

Other than Trek 1-6 there are near-zero TrueHD 7.1 tracks.

Near-zero means I can count on my hands the number of titles which have it.
