I'm very glad you brought that up. Is there any way to find out what companies are producing 1.3 compliant cables now so that I don't shoot myself in the foot by getting a 1.2?

Thanks everyone for all of the input. I appreciate the feedback without making me feel like an idiot for not knowing in the first place.

Look on the package or in the specs for the wire. It will tell which one it is.

did your friend connect to other connection previously ? if so, have to manually set it to hdmi or hold power button for 5 sec to reset.

if you so worry, get the ps3 original hdmi cable which is also rated to go 1.3 but not as expensive as the monster.

Is there really a difference between the monoprice "regular" HDMI cable ($5) and their 1.3a certified cable ($20)?

The ONLY HDMI cables supposedly NOT capable of passing 1.3 are class B... good luck trying to find one of those - if they exist. Any decent cable will pass 1.3. If the picture didn't come through it could be the panels firmware. This is CRITICAL to passing 1080p - always power up your display first, switch to the correct input, THEN power up your source. Some Early Sony displays had the HDMI input but these were not actually active believe it or not.

HDCP needs to have an ongoing conversation with the panel. Inturrupt that conversation, even to switch inputs briefly and depending on your display's EDID firmware. That firmware tells the signal from the source how many times per hour the conversation needs to happen. Early EDID firmware only gave a very short initial time for that talk. Example, if the panel couldn't 'hear' from the source within a second or two, the signal would shut itself down as protection - HDCP.

I'm not so sure. My HDMI cable is 1.2a. All I know is that 1.3 is capable of Deep Colour and some other colour profiles that 1.2a wasn't designed to do. Same with audio types.
