Please help me with Onkyo 805

I have the Onkyo 805 hooked up to my PS3. I was wondering what the best listening mode is for uncompressed pcm Blu Ray Titles. I played with Pirates in the pure audio mode and it sounded really good. I am just wondering if I am missing something because 300 with the Dolby True Hd sounded incredible on Pure Audio. Let me know if you guys have sugguestions. Thanks Alot

try out THX Ultra Cinema...

it will matrix the 5.1 PCM into 7.1

I have the 805 and just set it up correctly for PCM thanks to a blu member here. (Player - HDMI out to Receiver HDMI in.) That Simple. My favourate, as many blu members here will tell you the same, PCM is it! I'm still checking it against other sound formats, but nothing so far compares.
To go a few steps further, be sure to tweek all of your channels/speakers to taylor the sound you desire with the Menu/center button. Treble, Bass, Volume etc for each channel output. Makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the help I appreciate it, I have it hooked up from the player to reciever through the hdmi cable and it sounds good. The bass did sound really low in the scene where the black pearl enters port royal and starts blowning stuff up. Gonna try Black hawk down. Any info is much appreciated.

I thought it was something like THX Neural 7.1 that upconverts to 7.1. I've had the 705 for a couple of weeks.

Since the PS3 Decodes eveything anyways should I just use the direct mode?

do you have a 5.1 or 7.1 set-up? if only 5.1 then direct should be ok. But if you have 7.1, you would want any 5.1 source playing through all 7.1 speakers.

also, be sure your ps3 is outputting Linear PCM

Settings - BD/DVD Settings - BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) - Linear PCM

yeah I have it setup linear pcm, I also have 7.1 setup. That means if I went with Direct it would only output 5.1? So I would need to use Something like the THX ultra mode? Curious?

Direct: audio from the input source is output directly with minimal processing.


basically if you have 5.1 source, you will only get 5.1 playback...
