1. Turn the unit OFF (ub820 i ub9000)
2. Press and hold [OK], the [Yellow] button and the [Blue] button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds.
“00 RET” is displayed on the unit’s display.
3. Press [►] right repeatedly on the remote control until “08 FIN” is displayed on the unit’s display.
4. Press and hold [OK] for more than 5 seconds
Thank you. This is the kind of response I was hoping for. I'm 100% sure it's not an electrical issue as the unit is perpetually plugged into a fully functioning power strip and there are no interruptions of any kind - and no other devices are affected. I will follow these instructions.

I’ll bet you the problem will come back. Not jinxing it but very very most probably it will come back. doing the factory reset will clear the errors regardless of the cause. But just wait about a month or so.

A few discs later and it’s back to not opening on the 820….I’m going to try and find a replacement belt for the tray if I can but nothing is listed on Panasonic’s parts site.
This is ridiculous.

Is this player capable of converting from Dolby Vision to HDR10?

I'm wondering if it can make use of the Dolby Vision data to clean up bad HDR10 base layer encodes on discs that have Dolby Vision and a bad HDR10 base layer such as wall-e criterion.

Yes. Just turn off the DV option in the settings menu

Definitely not. In order for DV to engage on the 820 or 9000, the TV has to communicate (if the TV has DV) for things to kick in. If the TV doesn't have DV, the DV option on either player does nothing at all for HDR10 or HDR10+. There is literally zero difference running the HDR10 at that point. They're two very different codecs.

Not really DV data is HDR10 base layer + DV extra layer

No mate. All any standalone player can do is turn off the Dobly, so you get the HDR10 layer as-is. What some people in your position have done is buy an HDFury to spoof a player into outputting low latency Dolby Vision, which is essentially a pre-tone mapped 'HDR12' signal. Projektor peoples have been doing this for a while.

I started doing this DV trick too and it does make a difference with projectors that take 4k HDR signals. On discs with 12 bit FEL, you get the benefit of the improved compression from less than stellar base encodes.

Just bought a open box from best buy of the 9000p1k to be shipped . Begged them to double box , first agent said "what is double box" ? .... wish me luck on this . What to know for a first timer with this unit , Set to oled , DV on or off or auto ? Is there a kit to buy like the Oppo's that is a plug in to make it region free no soldering ? If so can someone please send me a link to a reputable seller . What are the remote tricks available ? Thanks !

There is a link in my signature. I made the video just for these reasons. Over 130K served.

Thank you . One last question , is this worth it ? Will best buy really come thru if something breaks . Buying this kind of negates some of the savings of the open box though .

Good luck! I've had two 9000s shipped to me by Best Buy. And both times, the unit box was simply sent as-is with a label stuck to it and no extra cardboard boxing around it. They got to me OK...but the product boxes were not in good shape.

did you ask to double box ? I asked and they didn't even know what that meant and later got transferred to someone else who said yes they would and I'm pretty sure he was making it up , I saved the transcript and if its beat to hell going to return it , Also wondering why it was a returned or open box to begin with . It may all ready of been beat up from the first time it was bought. I paid like under $700 in open box excellent condition so it was worth a shot . Will see ..

I can’t say. I never buy extended warranty and I never buy open box either. I used to, but I always had bad luck buying anything that is not brand new.

I tried opening ticket with Panasonic, should it be software-related, but didn’t really get anywhere.
As an update, the issue extended to more discs, including some recent Sony discs. I purchased a new player this morning to rule that out, especially since the PS5 played the same problematic discs (sans Dolby Vision). And it solved the issue. The same discs playback correctly. The unit is also way quieter. When I would insert a disc or change chapters, it sounded like the old player was chewing up the disc. I hate that it took replacing the entire unit. Perhaps this one will last longer.

What you’re experiencing in beginning is already not normal. . I wish I had known you experienced that so I can recommend you to have the player fixed or exchanged.

Ok so this player is great, it's very quiet, plays discs quickly and has solid picture quality. Superb chroma upsampling.

I'm having one small issue, when i play Arrow 4K titles the disc menu is displayed in SDR, when i start the film the player info says HDR, but my display isn't switching to HDR as it should. When the film starts I have to switch inputs to get my display to resync and then it displays in HDR. This doesn't happen with most discs which display HDR strait away. I realise this probably more of an issue with my display but i'm wondering if anyone else has has seen this or been able to do anything about it. I tried different HDMI cables connected directly to my display.
