It’s been established that the DTS-HD MA 5.1 on the BD does, so hopefully that means it’s faithful to the 70mm mix. If so, that’d be my preferred track anyway.

Clean from center to edge of the disc you might need to do this a few times. Also clean inside the amaray case as the residue can transfer from disc to hub area. New UHD disc have a residue that can’t be seen with a visual inspection. The residue cause various issues in some UHD players (Some players are more affected than others) The residue can cause video freezing or audio dropouts and also can cause menu loading issues. Don’t go by visual inspection of the disc as you can’t see the residue. |

I'm considering replacing the LFE channel on the DTS track with the LFE channel from the Atmos track, since the latter has been getting such raves for its low end response. I did something similar with a custom track I made for Top Gun (in that case, it was the AC-3 laserdisc track coupled with the LFE channel from the DTS mix) and had fantastic results.
EDIT: Ohhohooo buddy. Yep. That’s the way to go. All the tasty subwoofer action of the Atmos track with none of the problems. I’m a happy camper now. The Atmos track should have been perfect as it was, but…at least I’ve got something I can live with now. Last edited by Croweyes1121; 03-23-2024 at 08:37 PM. |

Would anyone like my Digital Code for Movies Anywhere of the 4K The Abyss? I bought it digitally when it first became available months ago and I don't need the one that came with the 4K disc. Please only ask for it if you want to watch it, not sell it.
Just post here and the first to post will get it PM'ed to them. |

During it's re-release screening last year when that scene happened, there was some chuckles from the audience. Even I was like, really Jimbo. You didn't fix that lol!

No, but the last release was when? DVD circa 2000?
It happens right at the bottom of the frame and would have been easy to matte out, and with some 4K releases editing out goofs and crew member cameos like Poltergeist, it wouldn't have surprised me. I'm glad it's still there, it adds to the charm of the movie, lol. |

All I can say is that to my ears the LD boxset 2.0 matrix still sounds the best. The 5.1 ac3 is very similar but that era of 5.1 upmixes could often introduce goofs, errors or other mixing stuff that makes the original 2.0 matrix preferable. Most 70mm films didn't have split surrounds and SR was sporadic in its usage for 1989. It was a hit or miss thing and the in70mm.com list of releases by year is a good indicator of which films had split surrounds or not. Also with The Abyss in particular you have to look at the theatrical mixes separately from the home versions because the extended cut was completed for the LD boxset. That mix was done around the home video Dolby surround matrix system of the time much like the extended cut of T2 or the 1993 Star Wars Definitive Collection mixes. All of those still sound great (and FAR better than remixes or most mixes of today) but they aren't technically theatrical nor are they done by theatrical parameters. |

The Abyss Special Edition was completed on film and had prints made that screened theatrically prior to the LD release.

Some people are selling this for 100$. I mean, is this because of the o-card/slip or because they want to make people believe it was a one-time pressing? Or because they know some people want to watch this so bad before as second pressing is made available?
