The folks at Fathom Events have been trying to change that, by bringing cool, niche theater events to cinemas all around the country. You’ve probably seen their advertisements for live concerts or opera performances broadcast on the screen, but every now and then they also do something really different. For instance there’s this: They’re resurrecting The Wizard of Oz.

For one night, on September 23rd at 7:00 pm in over 440 movie theaters around the country, you’ll be able to walk up to the box office and buy a ticket for The Wizard of Oz. It’s the film’s 70th Anniversary, and to celebrate they’ve remastered the film and will show it in beautiful, high-definition. Included along with the newly remastered movie, you’ll see:

• A special welcome by TCM host Robert Osbourne and a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of The Wizard of Oz.
• Exclusive footage
• Special home movie outtakes
• Rare archival interviews with the cast
• Exclusive clip of the Scarecrow dance with Ray Bolger in Hi-Def
• Audio outtake of Ray Bolger singing a somber version of "If I Only Had A Brain"

G.I. Joe will be there whenever you want to see it. But unless you’re well into your 80s, odds are you’ve never seen The Wizard of Oz the way it was meant to be seen on the big screen. Mark your calendars and buy tickets in advance by visiting Fathom’s website.

It is playing at two theaters in my area too! Sad for the people who really want to see this and won't be able. I don't really like the movie so I won't be going.

This week my wife and I went to see Wicked in San Diego. To be honest with you, I did not know what it was about. But I was amazed at the story line.

I have seen The Wizard Of OZ many times and will get it on Blu when it comes out. But what I saw was "The Rest Of The Story," the real truth. The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz. So much happened before Dorothy dropped in.

If you ever get to see the Wicked you will discover how the Wizard spun the truth to have himself appear, good and the witch, bad. I think he must have been a politician.

Not out as a movie at this time. It is now a Broadway play on tour http://www.wickedthemusical.com/

Yes sir its a classic as well. Its the black version of the Wizard Of Oz!! Great music and same type of story but more soulful etc.. I love both films but the Wiz has some great tunes man. Check it out.

Not worth seeing since they will "crop" a 1.33 picture to fit a 1.85 screen, a shame really!
