I heard connecting a 4K player to a 1080p television can lead to issues despite both using HDMI (including the lack of HDR), no?

That said, what are really solid 4K players to invest in that hit a good midpoint between quality and affordability?

I don't need a Region Free one as I can easily alternate between 4K and 2K RF.

Nothing to do with format.

Never seen this.

I’ll watch the trailer later.

Leaning towards the blind buy.

Yeah I am definitely open to going that route down the line—I wouldn't be future proofing if I weren't—but I am not in a rush.

Random question though: is the Blu-Ray included with the HMV UK release identical to the US one? I read the original UK Blu is barebones and has lossy audio, but since the HMV has the US extras, does it have lossless audio too?

As magnificent as people say it is. One of my best first-time watches of last year.

It looks like they used this image as the basis, and scrubbed and digitalized the hell out of it. Hopefully not a bad omen for the disc itself

Maybe the intension is to make it look more like a painting from a pulp novel cover?

I love that this comes with The Two Jakes. Though not a big role, I love seeing Tom Waits in front of the camera.

Default Chinatown

A masterpiece of cinema in every way, shape and form and in my opinion, Jack Nicholson's greatest performance. I saw Chinatown when it first opened and then ended up that year seeing it 32 times theatrically. Score, cinematography, casting script and Goldsmith's score are masterful.

Panasonic UB820, it's a little on the pricier side but it's the only player you'll ever need. If, however, you want the cheap option now and worry about getting the good player later, go with the UB150.

That and their Barbarella Blu-ray slip were absolute perfection.

Added the UB820 to my wishlist on Amazon, thank you.

Is it really beneficial to use it with a 1080p television though given the lack of HDR/DV compatibility?

I've heard it does a good conversion job, but given the importance of HDR for this format I'd probably only use it for UHDs with fresh new masters that aren't available on Blu-ray.

Great!

Only problem for me much like .. Once Upon a Time in the West ... they'll probably release a standard down the road with OG art on slip. And I'll be forced to buy that too.

Yeah I don’t mind it, tbh. Especially with the original cover inside.

I already have The Two Jakes, but here's hoping that it's actually from a 4K source as opposed to a repress of the original BD. If it's the same BD, I'll just go for the 4K disc of the first film.
