All the non-disc swag on the UK release is extremely tempting. I assume that second disc has all the special features that the 4K UHD disc (Both in the US and UK editions) will not be having.

So on one hand we could get a release with cool non-disc swag and on the other we could get The Two Jakes as a bonus feature (A film I haven't seen yet but I have heard some positive some negative reviews on this). So while I could get the sequel separately as it already has a standard edition from a few years back, the UK version has a little more to offer but costs more to import ($40 US vs the $55 UK). I might have to end up waiting for this to pop up in a brick and mortar store.

decisions, decisions...

Both the US and UK editions seem to offer the same extras, aside from The Two Jakes.

It will most likely just be the older disc. Judging by the back cover specs, they look identical to the older Blu-ray. Paramount (same as Warner) doesn't seem to include updated Blu-rays in many of their 4K Combos... they could always surprise us, but I doubt it.

The price on the UK release isn't too bad, so I may just get it instead of the US release.

Paramount "remastered" When Worlds Collide BD which came with War of the Worlds, so i guess they might do the same here. It wasn't a 4K remaster though

Had there been a book included in the UK I would have opted for that (being in the UK) but that tat is mucho superfluous and with all the import duty, tax etc for the US version it comes to £45 as opposed to £40 for the UK release and you’re getting The Two Jakes so it’s not even a hard decision for me.

No clanging, garish BBFC certs also.

Is there any guarantee that there’ll be a standard edition without all the, for want of a better word, tat? I just want a disc in a case, not all this added junk for an extra £10 stuck on the price tag.

I am sure there will be- if not in the UK then France, Italy and they should have a nice slim case and slipcover too.

I quite enjoyed 'The Two Jakes' so getting a set that has that as a bonus will be my priority...surely one of the best bonus features ever offered in a 4K release.

I already have The Two Jakes on BD So no interest in another copy or even the tat. Just want Chinatown on a 4K disc at the lowest price.

I'm sure I'm wrong but I can't think of a "Paramount Presents" 4k release that gof a standard edition later?

So far, War of the Worlds and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

Some of the PP Blu-rays got standard editions (and/or 4K upgraded standard editions) too.

As a fan of The Two Jakes and only having it on a crappy pan & scan DVD, and already owning the HMV Premium Collection blu of Chinatown, it's the US release for me. Easy decision, especially given the relatively minor price difference at this stage.

The 4K disc has all the extras, the BD is barebones on the UK (and any non-US release).

It's weird that Paramount is only including The Two Jakes on the US release, because the EU BD is completely worthless.

From where should I order the UK edition if I don't want to gamble on Amazon packaging it properly?

Well the European releases tend to be equivalent standard editions of the Paramount Presents versions and much cheaper too.
