I love how WB's YT channel is celebrating the anniversary by posting clips from the film in wrong aspect ratio. You go, Warner!

16:9, right?

Still better than the 20th Anniversary trailer for the 4K remaster releasing exclusively in Dolby Cinema being in portrait mode.

Does anyone know if this set is any different than the The Matrix Trilogy 4K Blu-ray from 2018? Aside from the inclusion of Resurrections and Animatrix

It doesn't have the three special features discs, one for each in the trilogy. Avoid if you don't own them, because they're really good. Buy separately.

Nice one, I'll get the 2018 one then. I already own a Resurrections steel but I've been slacking on getting the rest in 4K.

Color cast when they're inside the matrix in this 4k transfer seem to vary between green, neutral, and blue instead of being a consistent green. I can't be sure what I saw in the theaters, I just remember it having a distinctly different look that had a green color cast. I don't think it varied like it did in the 4k transfer but of course I can't be sure. I could be entirely wrong!

I'm sure it looks different compared to 1999 for all the reasons that have been discussed over and over, but I love The Matrix UHD BD.

This looks so cool, but the case makes me want to take a blue pill and forget all about it.

I’m seeing a 35mm print at a local theater on Tuesday so I’ll settle this cyan business once and for all lol.

Watching that comparison a few posts above makes me disappointed in everything, if that recreation is how it originally looked. The only one which is even close is the original DVD and it's a washed out version of it.

Can tell the 4K master's colors are messed up even as a first-time viewer. I mean, Morpheus' shirt is three colors in only a few minutes. I'm embarrassed that I ever praised it.

The “35mm Reconstruction” looks too neutral to me. I would think that there would be some form of photochemical gradin, if that’s a negative scan. It was a lot greener when I saw it last year at an Alamo theater showing. But maybe I just don’t remember properly.

Ok, so I went to go see a vintage 1999 35mm print of the movie and just for fun I'll leave my impressions since the color on this movie has been controversial pretty much since the original DVD release.

So I watched the 4K disc last week, and suddenly the opportunity came up to see this print so I saw both pretty close together, and then when I got home from seeing the print I went back through and spot checked some scenes on the UHD just for fun.

Basically it's what I think many people knew when they looked at the comparisons-- the print looked really close to the UHD for most of the movie (including the greens and yes-- many scenes with cyan lighting). BUT... the shoot-out and rooftop scenes definitely didn't have that cyan cast in the print. There are random shots that have some cyan lighting, mostly cast off of the walls in the building the agents are in holding Morpheus, but it's much fewer than the 4K transfer.

My purely speculative guess? Bill Pope wanted more cyan in those scenes, maybe because they didn't light it quite the way he wanted originally, so he pushed more of it on the new transfer and it's the one real revisionist quality to it. Regardless, IMO it doesn't really bother me and I think it fits in with the overall aesthetic of the movie.

But it was really fun to watch that print with a bunch of fans-- there's a little funny part that I never noticed before-- when Neo is talking to Morpheus on the phone and sees the agents and goes "oh shit!' And then Morpheus says: "yesssss" That got a big laugh.
