My suspicion is "doesn't care". Peter Jackson seems to suffer from the same malady as Cameron, give what he approved for LotR 4k. I dislike how unnecessarily soft Christopher Nolan's releases look due to his insistence on photochemical color grading a positive for disc releases.

That's the funny part. It's not a 90s era program. He's found NEW and EXCITING ways to destroy his movies. Now he's using AI to do it. And the results, relatively speaking, aren't any better than what he was getting with literal tape-to-tape dubbing 30 years ago.

I have heard it repeatedly said that he has a contract clause for final approval on all home video releases of his movies (other than Piranha II, maybe). So even if the fans of these films want no involvement from him, it may not be legally possible.

I'm sure only a tiny minority of viewers care or even think at all about transfers, film grain, etc. So, the "hatred" that exists is really a very minor thing.

True, I believe the recent 4Ks of Aliens, True Lies and The Abyss sold like gangbusters despite months of controversy leading up to their release.

A future head's up for any New York residents, Last night Criterion had a little get together with Isabella Rossellini last night for the 5th anniversary of the channel. and according to someone who attended, they hope to do more of these in the future

Certainly. I'll bet it was also a very small number of people, largely in the film-making community, that objected to pan-and-scan. How widespread was the outcry against colorization? It got the Library of Congress to found the National Film Registry, to save classic B&W films from colorization, and individuals at TCM had to say No when Turner told them to show colorized classic movies. Forty years ago Turner saw colorization as the only way to popularize these films, it took a few film nuts in the right places to head him off.

The CGI in the second Avatar movie looks more like real life than the new transfer for True Lies.

I remember her from Banshees as Colin Farrell's sister, she was fakkin' good in that one.

Also, I'm going to start referring to all good movies as "brill" from now on.

You're confusing her with Cherry Condom.

(also not to be mixed up with Berry Bottom)

I recently discovered that my Criterion copy of 81/2 was defective, I bought it new many years ago and I have only used the disc 1 time .....at the most.

The disc starts and shows the Criterion logo on the upper left hand side of an all black screen then that is it, it won't do anything else. Anyhow I mailed the disc to Criterion yesterday.

I had never had this happen before on any disc. I came here and I can see this is a known issue hence why I so quickly mailed the disc to Criterion and I am sure they will take care of me. So thanks a lot to Blu-ray.com!

Anyways after this I decided to check every Criterion Blu-ray in my collection, luckily I only have ~40 or so.
I started each disc and if it took me to the menu I started the film, checked the time/chapter menu, if this all went smoothly I stopped there and moved onto the next disc. I ended up finding one more bad disc, Criterion 'M'. The rest all at least took me to the disc menu and the film successfully started.
Question is, was this^ enough to determine if a disc is bad or not?
