The heart of the red rings problem is a lack of cooling on the GPU. Extreme heat and then cooling cycles break solder points

They've added a heatpiped heatsink to the GPU, and the new design is 65nm which runs far cooler. The problem is solved.

The outward case has nothing to do with it.
