MGM (MOD) will be releasing the Sci-Fi film Red Planet Mars (1952) on Blu-ray on January 16th. This is the first BD release for the film.

This is a film that would definitely benefit from some special features.
Also, I hope that's not the final artwork. It looks like something that would come in last in a middle school Photoshop contest. |

It's too bad SF nor Kino ever picked this one up in one of their MGM deals. And yeah, that artwork is absolutely terrible.

This was never released on legit DVD, only a boot from the extremely low-rent shady outfit “Cheezy Flicks”, likely ripped from the MGM LD box set United Artists Matinee, which included it along with The Man from Planet X, The Monster That Challenged the World, and IT! The Terror from Beyond Space, a great set for its time, which is still on my shelf somewhere. Glad to see it’s finally hitting Blu, the final holdout from the set. I’ll be picking it up, despite the inexcusably ghastly artwork.

Red Planet Mars Blu-ray
DVDBeaver have reviewed the title. The transfer for this looks really great. Now if only they could have made a cover art that wasn't ugly as sin. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film12/blu-...rs_blu-ray.htm Last edited by Deciazulado; 02-02-2024 at 08:28 PM. |

Holy moly talk about a shocking surprise! I have the Laserdisc boxset, and that’s how I got to saw this really surprising film. I never thought it would see an official release again, and I saw the cover art and thought it was some hideous bootleg.
Why did MGM do this themselves and not give it to Kino because Kino basically licenses anything they have. |

Is this a BD-R?

Thanks. Thinking about picking up Bolero but just wanted to know if the image (no br logo) necessarily means it's a bd-r. Hopefully, it's also a pressed disc.

Wow, this release has the worst collection count I've seen for a catalog BD title that has been out for months with a brand new master on this site. And it doesn't seem like it's selling much on Amazon either.
I think the awful cover art and the fact that people are unsure whether it's BD-R or not is killing this release. |
