I just updated the Wiki entry to Hairspray, the movie. Added the BD section.

We grasp it just fine. The studios grasp what we want just fine. But they are going to tease us with the lesser titles first to bone up some cash and THEN move on to big hits when things slump a little. They are trying to keep a steady growth in the numbers.

If everything came out THIS MONTH, sales would boom for a few months while people get around to picking this stuff up. Then, almost nada. They know what they are doing. Gotta bait the hook first.

LOTR is 5 years past its theatrical window

No non-new release is affected by this.

Couldn't agree more. While this isn't the top of my list for new releases (or even including catalog issues), this is going to be a high-profile release for New Line, even if they didn't have a HD release to go with the DVD. Remember, we are dealing with momentum and inertia in the marketplace. EVERY BR released helps the cause no matter if it is your personal preference or not.

Another thing you single guys (I know a lot of you are, admit it) have to remember is that we married guys really need the buy-in and acceptence of our better halves when incorporating ANY new technology into the home. Wide availability of movies that are family friendly, or considered 'chick flicks' are also important to this cause. Hairspray hits on both of these, not to mention it's just a fun, infectious movie.

Whether you buy this title or not, it is important to all of us. If Hairspray fails to do well in Blu, New Line might reconsider doing more serious releases like Austin Powers.

Personally I want Blade 1 and 2 (3 can just shrivel and die)

I saw a dye-transfer 35mm print, and they used extra silver in the emulsion to really get the blacks up there on Blade 1. Combine that with it being shot anamorphically instead of icky Super35 blowups and you had a gorgeous looking film.

The Man Room posted that they've just gotten hold of the back cover of Hairspray on BD. What they found is that the audio will be in DTS HDMA!

When I took a look at the cover myself, it's not only DTS HDMA, it's also in 7.1! Woohoo! This is gonna sound so much better than the CD soundtrack!

Default Hairspray Blu-ray features DTS-HD Audio, High-Def extras

New Line broke their silence regarding high definition support a couple weeks ago and formally announced 'Hairspray' would be the first title to appear on Blu-ray Disc in November, followed by an HD DVD version early next year. At the time, all we had to go off for technical specs was a press release which lumped the high definition disc specs with the standard DVD disc specs. Suspicious that whoever wrote the press release wasn't familiar with high definition home video, we inquired to New Line and their PR firm for clarification. Those inquiries went unanswered.

Now we've gotten a hold of the back cover art for 'Hairspray' on Blu-ray Disc and what do you know: 7.1 DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio! The cover also confirms the extra features will be presented in either 1080i or 1080p. There's now renewed hope 'Rush Hour 3' may receive a similar treatment in December unless the cover is incorrect. We tend to believe the cover over the press release at this point.

You can view the back cover, along with the front, through the disc specs below.

Nice, New Line are big fan of 6.1 DTS on DVD, i hope that most their Title are Loseless (even if it's DTS MA), a musical need loseless since it's music, i wish Dreamgirls would have had one.. ;(

More Hairspray news. This is the revamped cover per Amazon.

Personally I liked the previous one better. The poster art is the best.

It's available for pre-order now on Amazon.

Not to mention that Peter Jackson FINALLY settled the law-suit he filed against the studio for crapping him out of money.

They need to let everything settle, figure out how much he's owed, then move foward. They can't release LOTR without knowing how much Pete's gonna make or they will be back in court.

++++ And F all YI's "hairspray" is not a woman's movie. I'm a male, and I enjoyed the movie. And I will be purchaseing it.

thanks.

Custom art, just because I don't think the current art is nice.

Travolta playing the same part as Divine is just too scary for me. What's next, Pink Flamingos remake? Just kidding.
Sorry, but as much as I would like to support New Line with Blu-ray, I cannot bring myself to purchase this movie.

^ What he said. Also, since New Line is owned by Warner, it's that much more important to support them.
