This one is a close call... I think Penn and Johnson are absolutely fantastic in this, but the script doesn't quite work. It starts out somewhat promisingly but the whole movie becomes increasingly sappy until by the end it just feels like a Hallmark movie or something.

If there are any New Yorkers who would sound the way the main two characters do towards the end of the movie, I've never met any!

I read a different script by this filmmaker that had been getting a fair amount of buzz, and it was kind of terrible. She didn't seem to understand how films operate, and the best writing in it is wasted on things that wouldn't even be on the screen.

I remember a scene at the end, where it says she is thinking, deciding whether to do oddly specific thing #1 vs oddly specific thing #2, yet neither thing is mentioned in the dialogue or shown, it's only on the page. The entire screenplay was littered with things like this. Forgive me if I'm hazy on the specifics, I read this thing years ago.

It also began with a several page manifesto about how if you don't like her screenplay, you are a misogynist. It was one of the craziest things I've ever seen on a so-called "professional" screenplay.

I thought this was good for what it is. 98% of the film is two people sitting in a cab and talking. I read that it was shot in 16 days which seems impressive. Penn and Johnson did great jobs.

It would be interesting to know what the budget was.

I finished watching this today. I thought it was pretty good and thought both actors did a great job. I had never seen Dakota Johnson in anything before, but if I ever want to watch a movie where someone just talks for an hour and a half, I would hope she'd be in it. She's just a stunner and a goddamn delight to watch.

When Dakota has screen time, she really can carry a film. I suggest:

The Peanut Butter Falcon (great movie)
Bad Times at the El Royale
The Social Network (ok this one is more a cameo/small role, but I think its her first)

Thanks! I'll look into those. I've seen The Social Network but don't remember her in it, but if it's a small role (and a movie I haven't seen in years) then it makes sense I might not remember her.

She's only got one very minor scene, she's the college girl who Justin Timberlake sleeps with and it's the audience's introduction to him

I’m surprised Michael Chiklis didn’t get to reprise his role for this.

I would also suggest 'Cha-Cha Real Smooth' (only on Apple TV, I think). She's really great in that.

She has a key supporting part in The Lost Daughter with Olivia Colman and she’s amazing (and almost unrecognizable). I also loved her turn in A Bigger Splash, a semi remake of La Piscine with a great cast.

I was reminded of your recommendation the other day and just finished it. Thank you very much, I quite liked it and yes, Dakota Johnson is fantastic in that.

Enjoyed this one quite a bit, wasn't sure exactly where it was going, but thought both actors delivered in this one
