Won't happen in the forseable future. It seems the original materials (camera negative, interpositive) are lost at the moment.

I read somewhere its down to complicated rights issues. Everyone thought 'The Hitcher' negative was lost forever but........

Unfortunately, as in the film, the abandoned salt mine where the negative was last known to be stored has been overrun by zombies.

I still have the Arrow 25th Anniversary Blu-ray of Day of the Dead. I would have thought it would have been re-released by now.

Don't we have temps to handle that sort of task? Get 'em in there!

Again, unfortunate but why should that mean it doesn't get a new release?

The Changeling doesn't have OCN or IP but still was a nice 4K boost.

Kind of surprised that it took over three years to get a site review of this set:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Dawn-...284522/#Review

In summary, Randy is singing the praises that all of us who own it already knew.

Nice to see. This project was a huge undertaking. What Chris at Second Sight managed to pull together is kind of astonishing in hindsight. (I'm pretty sure he's also responsibile at least in part for getting The Hitcher's camera negative unearthed, so...)

I'm not sure if it was credited on the final release, but Fidelity in Motion actually did some restoration work on the OCN version (which is used on the non-Argento cuts) to reduce image warping at the end of one of the reels.

One of my enduring memories of 2020, and probably one of the only semi-positive ones, was sitting at JFK Airport's Alaska Air lounge (which didn't survive the events of that year) in mid-March, killing time before a flight, rotoscoping one of said scenes to isolate moving areas. I remember thinking it was darkly appropriate to be working on a film about a zombie apocalypse when the airport was nearly empty.

This is still the absolute best release of any film in my collection. I can't thank anyone involved with this set enough. Infinite gratitude.

If I were you, I’d go for the Second Sight release… The UHDs are completely US-friendly, and there are no BBFC ratings on the actual case.

I only say this because I don’t see a US release happening. No one wants to pay Rubinstein’s exorbitant prices to license it.

I'd LOVE to downgrade from the big box set to the downscaled edition. The only reason I can't is because I want someone to release the 3-CD set by itself.

A warmer colour grading would also be another reason for another release.

Since the Argento and Cannes cuts only exist as 1st generation dupes (an Interpositive and a CRI), there are no "better elements" available for them. I mean, I suppose one could cobble together a composite of the negative & IP for the Argento cut, but the differences in that cut are so expansive (i.e., there are many shots in the Argento cut that are just a few frames longer, etc.), I'm not sure how feasible it would be. The Cannes/U.S. theatrical cut are much closer, thus it was a much simpler proposition in that case (and exactly what Second Sight did in the case of the Cannes cut- mixed the 4K negative scan of the theatrical cut with 4K scans of the Cannes cut CRI for the extra footage).

Chris

The color grading was supervised and approved by DOP Michael Gornick. If he would have wanted it warmer he would have said so.
