in store

i got into the habit after Best Buy sent me several crushed steels in the flat cardboard mailer, but 2 copies would earn a proper box. then just pick your favorite of the 2 and return the extra

A "gimmick" would also mean it's used as a means or ploy to get people to see the movie where they otherwise probably wouldn't. And I don't think B&W qualifies as that. Especially considering it came AFTER the regular color version.

Count me in for the general retail release (I'll take the inclusion of the English dub over the Minus Color cut).

That's the only information we have for this release regarding a dub, and it contradicts prior information. Methinks Toho is still finalizing the specs for this release.
By "prior information," do you mean what GRUV said on Facebook? If Toho's announcement contradicts it, then GRUV is probably wrong.

Gruv only said the film had subtitles in response to a question about the dub. The exclusion of the dub from the deluxe set also showed there was little reason to believe the dub would be included on the general release, but it wouldn't be the first change.

But Toho's announcement isn't worded very clearly, and I rather wait until the full final specs are posted before saying that the dubbed film is included. The lack of solid information, final art, or even a release date shows that they're still putting this thing together.

The phrasing is awkward, but it says pretty clearly that the English dub is included. There's no reasonable interpretation of that sentence that describes a situation in which the English dub isn't included. If it were still up in the air they would more likely not mention it at all.

ok. if they felt that strongly about it maybe it should've been the main version. otherwise its a bonus feature in my eyes.

You and I both. It seems like it lasted less than a day before it was sold out.

I agree it sounds like the English dub is included but the wording Japanese language releases doesn't make sense every release has Japanese language.

So, the release that came from Japan does not have English-friendly subs then, just the pre-orders for domestic release?

Correct, the editions sold in Japan do not have English subtitles.
The deluxe set sold on Godzilla.com and the wide retail editions will have English subs.

I have the Japanese deluxe edition unopened on my shelf and have the (mostly) English friendly deluxe edition pre-ordered. No way was I going to risk missing out. I know these are very expensive but unless you have a cash flow issue no way should you even wait a second to order your preferred sku.

Yes, I would have if I knew about it. I was under the impression that Toho wouldn't release Godzilla Minus One on home video in the United States the same year as there was an American Godzilla film being released. (That's what I have heard from this forum.) So I wasn't concerned about keeping a close eye on a release date this year. I don't read this forum every day. In fact, there are times when I don't come on here for quite a while. (I do have other interests.) And I don't visit the 4K thread very often when I do come on here. I wasn't on the Godzilla store's mailing list (I am now) because I don't like receiving too much email from various places. I'd rather just visit the website myself from time to time. It doesn't mean that I'm not a real fan. Next, you'll probably say I'm not a real fan because I've never been to G-Fest! (I've never had the means to get there.)

Yes, I agree. Even though dubs sometimes have to change the script a bit so the words match the mouth movement better and the voice actor may sound different than the actual actor/actress, sometimes I prefer dubs because all your attention is on the action on screen instead of constantly looking down to read the subtitles. And sometimes I just enjoy the dub better. If I want to watch a movie the way it was intended, I can/will always watch the original language version, which I enjoy immensely as well.

Wonder if Wal-Mart or Amazon will follow suit
So it appears they cancelled both copies and you have to reorder just to get the one? What if it is already sold out? Why couldn't they just refund you for one of the copies?

I literally just saw it listed on Amazon yesterday before I went to bed. I was too tired to order it then so I was going to order it today but it was already sold out like everywhere else! I said @#%& it and resorted to the lowest scalper price on eBay which was about $10 more than Amazon's price. I checked on eBay again today and the same scalper has raised the price by another $10! They need to make more copies. Toho would be making a lot more money!

Better hope your scalper didn't order it from the Gruv cause thier canceling orders that have multiple copies

wow, i know Toho aren't exactly prolific with releases anywhere apart from Japan, but this whole release schedule and details has been a bit of a mess?
how can people in all honesty put orders in for anything when we don't know whats on it? film versions? languages? etc etc
Get the releases listed in detail whats on what - THEN release to stores!?
is it really that hard?

You're darn right!!!!

I honestly don't care. But you did kinda walk right into that one after going off on someone about being a "true fan."
