So educate him. Send him the link to the "Myth" article. Ask him where he sourced his facts. Ask if his editors would be willing to let him do a follow-up.

As a professional writer and author myself, I know a lot of journalists who either make up their own data, or get it from the first 2-3 results on Google. The Internet makes writers lazy. Very little fact-checking is done, and, not surprisingly, a lot of fact-checkers don't make phone calls anymore--they Google it. It's a vicious circle of ineptitude.

But... I find if you approach the writer with constructive commentary, and are very discreet and tactful, they listen more times than not.

Now, all that said, I enjoyed the "Myth" article. I find it to be very informative. However, the writer makes no mention of the fact that there are some PS3 owners who aren't gamers at all--they bought the console for its Blu-ray capabilities. Unfortunately, there's no data, TMK, on what the % of non-gamer PS3 owners happens to be, so all anyone can do is speculate. But this might explain the writer's correct observation that the Xbox 360 seems to have more "fans" amongst gaming consumers.
