I see many Redbox kiosks in my area being taken away. Breaks my heart.

There is a working one left 5 miles away from me, but I am not sure if they will charge.

Really? Where are you. I think all the ones in my area are still around.

Plus Crackle is still live.

I'm from Tampa. I usually go to the kiosks at the CVS by the stadium. Even as late as 2024, people around there were still using it. Last week it was gone, it was a double Kiosk setup.

I think two in my area are still standing but neither have been attended to as I think Barbie was the last big release added.
The one in my area at Sheetz was taken out before all of this happened and the one in walmart in my area has an out of order sign on it

Still haven't been charged. Last time I was charged is on 7/10 when I bought Bandit.

Today I found a working Kiosk and it prompted me for a zip code, so I put a fake one there, still took it.

The two kiosks at a Walgreens near me are still live. And Crackle continues.

If they are shutting down the service someone has to pay millions to dispose of all the kiosks.

The Walgreens near me also still has their kiosk and it seems to be functioning as I spent a few minutes browsing it the other day, but didn't find anything I wanted. They were pretty prevalent at Holiday/Circle K gas stations, but I've noticed their kiosks have all been removed. I may have to see if any others are still in operation near me to see if they have anything I want before they're all gone for good!

...If? Leaving aside that kiosks around the country are very much being towed away for scrap, multiple people have been able to get free discs out of the remaining kiosks. Because the kiosks aren't performing full credit card validation. Because there is no one left to pay for said validation.

That is literally how little Redbox (or what's left of it) cares about this service.

My local Walmart looks to have finally unplugged their 2 kiosks and put up a printed computer paper saying something about them no longer working. I think I saw that a few weeks ago in a town over, so maybe Walmart is telling their stores to do that. The 1 other kiosk in town is at a local grocery store franchise and it was still on.

I have a used prepaid Visa card with nothing on it that expired in 2014, so I guess it would accept it? I have a stack of used gift cards that I plan to make guitar picks out of.

You didn’t understand my comment-I see plenty of kiosks still standing and I used one a couple of weeks ago to buy a disk.

I saw someone starting a rental last night.

The service seems to be slowly dying off rather than everything going dark in one swoop.

Crackle still works also.

Will material just disappear from Crackle, will it be bought or will one day the bills not be paid and it goes dark?

It looks like there is one kiosk still standing in my area. Someone was using it when I was there but I'll check it next time I'm out

Might have been temporary, still up and streaming on the website for me. Maybe the app went bad.

I have a double set of working Redbox machines near me at a Walgreens that is still working. I purchased a movie a week ago, and the charge still has not shown up on my card. These machines also have some 4K movies for rental, but not for purchase unfortunately (Nobody, Aquaman).

If I'm never going to get charged, I may as well go back and purchase every disc in the machines.

If you reuse your Redbox password on any other site, you might want to change it. It's fairly easy to pull customer information from the Redbox hard drive and considering Redbox machines are being dumped or given away to random strangers, it's not too difficult for someone to get physical access to the Redbox.

The last one in my town at a grocery store is still on, but has a screen saying it does not work and to go to another kiosk. I don't really understand this, since I guess the grocery store is having to pay for the electricity. Why not just unplug it? Who set it as not working? To be clear - there is no piece of paper, but an actual Redbox screen saying the kiosk is not working.

If the credit card readers aren't able to check numbers, why couldn't someone just make up one?

A lot of the prepaid Visas stopped working when Redbox rented video games, as a way to prevent someone from walking off with a $60 game. This also stopped certain debit cards from working too.

You can't go to the website to register a new prepaid Visa card anyway.
