Yeah, it's considered one, and is on the list in the first post.

Here are a couple others that are on the list

Blood on the Moon

Pursued was already on my watchlist, but I added the other two - thanks!

How about 1962's LONELY ARE THE BRAVE? I'd say that it's at least noir-adjacent.

Wait. Those Kino Noir box sets actually have Film Noirs in them? Did I miss the announcement?
(I LOVE those sets and enjoy every single one, but calling 80% of them Film Noir is stretching it, imho)

Don't trip over that low bar.

Here's a vid with Eddie Muller introducing the film at Noir City 2012. Filmed by someone in attendance, so it's a little shaky, and audio isn't perfect.

I guess the legal issues with this title were cleared at some point. Unfortunately, I don't find the film to be particularly good

I’d throw in a shout for

The Walking Hills
The Secret of Convict Lake
Station West
The Outcasts of Poker Flat

Even if you’d say they only have noirish elements, they’re good enough films to be on Blu-ray regardless of how they’re classified

Yeah and then they remade it in the 70s with Mia Farrow and I think that film isn't good either. Then they remade it again in 2013 with Dicaprio and well that film version I fell asleep watching as it was a drag that remake is so boring and drags so much. Just wait there will be a third remake of it next that'll probably be bad too, or maybe it will be good who knows. One things for certain Hollywood cannot get Gatsby right even once as they keep failing to adapt it correctly.

I agree. A little surprised that this is the film Kino is going to release separately also. hope it is a big seller for them. I will watch it only because it will be in a film noir box set that I know I will be getting.

It is funny that they refused to release titles like No Man of Her Own, Cloak and Dagger, Shack Out on 101, and some other notable ones separately because they desperately needed titles to continue the sets, but have no problem doing so in this case. I guess they figure no one would buy the box set if they came out individually too, which isn't the case with this one. Still, it would be nice if they came out individually down the road similar to how Indicator puts out a Noir set, and then separate titles later on.

And just to add to that, Fitzgerald despised the lost silent version as well. Really sad there isn't a definitive adaptation of the book.

If we're recommending "western noirs", I'd like to recommend Yellow Sky. It's got such an intriguing off-kilter vibe. The urban malaise/decay themes of many film noirs is transferred to an abandoned ghost town. Gregory Peck, Ann Baxter, and Richard Widmark are terrific. It's a great film.

No definitive adaptation will ever exist, because a big part of what makes the novel so special--its voice--cannot be translated to the screen. But it never stops being interesting to watch how films try.

Would the following two titles be considered Neo-noir?

A&E's version (2000) may not be definitive but it tells the
story Fitzgerald meant to tell with style and substance.
The script is faithful, it's well-produced and directed, and
the actors downplay their roles.
