Here's an example: https://slow.pics/c/mrCH5wwv.

This one from Addams shows that the new transfer has a tiny bit more detail than the old BD: https://slow.pics/c/2iPMRiTv and presumably more had they not taken off the top layer.
Erm...not sure what that Firm comparison is supposed to prove, it already looks much sharper than any of those AFV shots even in the worst encoded iteration, and in said iteration it's reducing stuff to blocky awfulness instead of taking a global bite out of the resolution of the whole image. They well have done something to AFV's encode but that source does not look anywhere near OG neg to me.

This will be leagues better than your DVD and I'm sure it'll be better than the old blu-ray. We can see additional detail and the colour is much improved in the caps. It's just not going to be the show stopper we were hoping for because it's Paramount.

It finally looks normal, as in caps 20 and 24. This is one type of digital adjustment I'm totally fine with.

honestly the encode looks fine to me, which is a shocker, but I think the true reveal will be seeing it in motion rather than caps

Especially when we get to see the full Dolby vision not HDR10 tonemaps of dubious origin

Exactly, it's not crapping itself in the brighter areas in the caps so if the lack of hf detail is purely encode-related then they're doing something very different to what they usually do.

even as it is regarding the caps, I still think it's a SIGNIFICANT upgrade, I highly disagree with the previous comment that its only major advantage is the color timing being much better

it looks far more organic and less like a mushy and dated telecine

Yeah, I'm not saying it ISN'T. That Blu is so unbelievably shitty that a ViewMaster version would look betterer. But there's still something really screwy going on with the 4K in itself, and I'd like to know what/why. Maybe notops' report of the print looking crummy as hell points to a deeper problem here, perhaps the OG negative was badly damaged at the time so all Paramount have left are downstream assets? Might not even be an IP from the looks of it.

Paramount+ has the new master so I looked at it a tiny bit, in motion it looks fantastic (streaming compression aside) and it looks better than the caps seem to lead, the detail to me at least looked really good, seems to have more detail than one could pull from an IP so it might very well be they used the OCN

Are you referring to my comment? If so, I think it’s as significant an upgrade as you mentioned, it’s just not as crisp and detailed as the best new remasters, that’s all. In that regard, the old master is similar to the new one but much inferior in every other regard. And I’m obviously speaking from Kobe’s caps here as my disc is still in transit.

based on what I'm seeing on Paramount+, it's inconsistent

a lot of shots look sharp and detailed and others look softer (not from DNR), idk honestly

I ordered with target.com, Deadpool & Wolverine shipped nearly a week before release (not that it mattered, I didn't get it until release day lol) but this hasn't shipped so I checked, and it's saying backordered now with an estimated arrival date of November 4th.

Is there some problem with Paramount titles or something? White Christmas doesn't say backordered but the estimated arrival date has moved back from Nov 6th to the 11th.

My copy from Bullmoose is out for delivery and hitting my mailbox in the next few hours.

Stop ordering from Amazon if you want to receive your preorders by release date (and if you want them packaged with the bare minimum of care).
