I think Martin Liebman's great too, but remember that he gave 'Patton' a 5/5 on PQ (as did most of the user reviews here).

Well, this is just MHO about judging a blu-ray by just screen caps which show only one frame. Perhaps the problem with the arrows in the screen cap is that one is actually seeing how poor the CGI was in that film. Do you honestly believe they actually shot thousands of real arrows in Gladiator. I would image that all of the arrows flying were digitally added and perhaps that aspect was poorly done. I only bring this up because I owned both the DVD and now the Blu of the Robe and there was something I noticed during one scene on the blu where it appeared that the foreground matte was moving in a different direction of the set where Jean Simmons was sitting. I posted a thread here about it and even mentioned where it exactly occurred and no one responded about whether or not they saw it too; even though a few people said they would watch it to see if they noticed it where I saw the event happen. It literally looked like a fault line moving in an earthquake between the matte and the actual set. At least that is what I saw. I guess what I am trying to suggest is that maybe the release of more films on blu will also show how far CGI needs to go. And just another point, if I had accepted all of the complaints about defective/damaged disc because of the poor packaging of BSG, I would have canceled my order. Instead, I decided to keep my order with DD, got a great price because of this site and I have a perfect set with no scratches, the box is fine and my cylon is not damaged. Personally, I want fantastic PQ and SQ on all of my blu's but I think the jury is still out on the overall quality of Gladiator.

No, it's not plausible. Seeing as neither master had been transfered to blu-ray and both(in theory) existed, the cost of transferring one would be the same as the other. If cost is moot between the two there would be no reason for them to release the inferior and risk profits.

A plausible explanation is the Extended Edition master, which was done after the Theatrical Edition, did not have the same processing on it that the earlier Theatric release did. When they transfered these masters to blu-ray they used the Theatrical edition as the "main" feature, with the older master, and seamlessly branched in the additional and altered scenes of the the Extended Edition, newer master.

And Uni and Paramount intentionally put out a bad BD just for kicks because they are cranky. That place is scarier than I imagined.

Gladiator won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Its not a CGI problem, the arrows are absolutely there in the HD broadcast version and even the DVD. Ditto the in-and-out fireball. And apparently some of the flying spears too

And we act like "oflunatics".

He's apparently still bitter that his HD-DVD loving Boss got fired and took him down with him. I guess he's working over at Summitt now.

if there is any truth to what he says thou it would explain why the extended cut look better than the theatrical. and it also means there is another release of this coming bcuz theyll get those who want it bad enough to buy it now and when all the complaints pour in they can put out a new better one. major double dip $$ for the studio.

Those theories over there are down-right kooky.

What do I know, I'm just a oflunatic. Or would that be "an" oflunatic?

Sums it up nicely. Needs much more 'meat' on it to give it any validity at all.

Default Any one have the guts?

I found this and called expecting to get a voice mail and a live person answered. I was flustered and hung up. Wondering if any of you would call and ask her what the deal is with Gladiator. It is a direct line to Paramount studios. I asked for the Blu-ray complaint department and they put me right through.

Call 323-956-5000. If you are calling about the decision to only release high def on HD-DVD ask for the DVD complaints department. You will then have to leave a message explaining your complaint, with your name and phone number. Good luck

This was obviously published a while ago
