"Through trial and error, we've learned what is and isn't working for our business, and adjusted accordingly. Obviously, we know about this better than anybody else"

Doesn't the fact they're selling out before or shortly after release mean maybe they don't know better than anyone else? It's basically leaving money on the table, right?

Just askin'

"Belittle" Get over yourself.

It is moaning. And whining. They're calling it for what it is, and people like you clutch your pearls. Meanwhile, many of those same people think they can endlessly complain and trash boutique labels (many of whom are operating on razor thin margins to survive, while giving us quality releases) without any pushback whatsoever. "Rules for thee, but not for me".

Unchecked entitlement and a serious lack of self-awareness--but that's nothing new around these parts.

Bad Company was their first exclusive slip. They quickly released Paradise and Heavenly Bodies before they knew how popular these exclusive slips would be.

It's worth remembering that their model was largely unchanged from their VS/OCN days through the releases of Primetime Panic 2, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, T.R. Baskin, Seeing Red, Deep in the Heart, Strangers Kiss, Fatale Femmes, and Party Girl. The latter is the only one I'm aware of that has sold out.

At this point they'd know if wide release or higher quantity slips would be working for them or not.

You seem to forget that WE are the consumers and yes, we ALWAYS have a right (entitlement) to complain if something is amiss. They also have a right (entitlement) to complain about the complainers if they wish. But again, you seem to forget and unfortunately so does FCE, we are the ones buying the product. If you turn off the consumer with name calling, they will not buy your product in the future. It's simple economics my friend. If you're on 'razor thin margins' then you should carefully choose which words you use in your online posts, because that could come back to haunt you later on. By simply omitting their first line and explaining why they have to have limited slipcovers, if they choose to explain why, would have been fine.

I have zero interest in slips and still fully support any distributor that is releasing the types of films I want to see. The fact that most every movie distributor has to deal with (or ignore) these constant public complaints over a piece of cardboard has got to be incredibly defeating. They could spend literally years trying to complete licensing deals, source materials, restore them, produce new features and commentaries on their own, and on and on. A slip likely involves less than 1% of that entire development time, which shows you the true value to them.

Since so many are convinced that slips are so important, valuable, and profitable, why doesn't someone start an extensive slip reproduction business? It'd bring the aftermarket collector values down and put an end to this.
Never once did I complain about the slips, so please re-read my comments before inferring that I did. Frankly if you wouldn't have posted their FB tidbit, I would have never seen the post as I don't have FB and would have never known, so this is on you. My comments I thought were simple. When I see companies calling their patrons moaning armchair quarterbacks it turns me off to that company. It literally does them NO good using that line. That was ALL I was saying. And yes it is belittling. I see a lot of people that obviously do not run or own a business on this forum making comments and apologizing for things like this. There is a way to professionally defend your company, if you deem it is needed, and this was not one of those examples. In the end, we all want these companies to succeed so we can get more releases of our favorite movies from them. But that chance dwindles every time I read things like this from these companies. I like FCE and have purchased a fair amount of their releases, but after reading their comment about how they feel about their paying customers, I will think twice in the future. I'll end my comments at that.

I think Driver78 mentioned this already exists. For me they have to be official though but that's just my preference. I wonder how many bootleg slipcovers are out there? Watch a flood of FCE slipcovers suddenly appear on Ebay

Just so I understand...

I preordered the slip version directly from FCE... so that means I should get both the slip and booklet right since I gather this is still considered the first pressing?

Not sure if this has been mentioned either here or in the Paradise / Heavenly Bodies threads; if so, forgive the repetition. Got this email from FCE today:

"Dear customer,

First of all, thank you for supporting our label and shop! Due to a labeling snafu, on the day your order was shipped, we mistakenly shipped some copies of the PARADISE slipcover edition to customers who did not order it. If you received one of those PARADISE editions in error, we would be very thankful if you would return it to us. It’s a limited item and we need to ensure that we can fill all of the orders of customers who did order it.

To show our appreciation, we will send along a unique, vintage piece of HEAVENLY BODIES marketing, as well as some FCE merchandise. Obviously, if this message doesn’t apply to you, please carry on and enjoy your HEAVENLY BODIES!

Thanks again,
Jonathan Hertzberg

I LOVE how the same small companies who cannot afford to produce more products and b*tch-out their customers on social media are also the same ones who ask customers to mail back their items they didn't order YET can somehow MAKE SUCH A FATAL MISTAKE... like, how you can afford to make a mistake THAT MANY TIMES you have to send out an email.

Unfortunately, here in the US, if you receive an item for free you didn't order, it is called a gift and by law you can keep it.

Same here.

Not cool. At the very least there should be excess printed to account for damage, loss, etc.

But hey, if I have to be shut out of the slip I ordered, then you can refund me the difference that it would have cost buying the slip direct versus buying a standard for a discount anywhere else- which was my plan originally.

With the way y’all overreact, no wonder barely any labels want to deal with this site.

It's a nice gesture on FCE's part to offer incentives for the return of slips but no one's gonna go for that. Those slips are now kinda valuable, then there's the shipping cost to send them back, I imagine, at the customer's expense? Who's going to take the love, care and time to properly protect them and send them back?

Big yikes!

I hope this doesn’t affect Diabolik’s allotment, since my order’s status is still at “preorder”. The standard editions are already showing up in local shops.
