522 page storyboard book!! it says (Japanese) does that mean it's in Japanese or only for the Japanese release.

In Japanese. That doesn't mean it's completely useless however, as it's filled with drawings and it's just the dialog and description text you can't read.

So far, yes. Bandai Visual's HD DVD releases dried up after Patlabor 1 & 2 were announced, and given the state of the Japanese market I don't think they want to keep doing HD DVDs for anything other than Freedom (and even that one is a bit doubtful as it's not exactly selling in buckets and droves).

Nice. I've been waiting for a stateside release announcement since I found out it was coming out in Japan this month. I hope it looks good.

I got the distinct impression from BV that the HD DVD thing has been an utter disaster, and that no more were coming

*nod* That's pretty much my take on it as well, based on the sales figures. Have you heard anything specific about if they're going forward with Freedom after volume 2? Technically it's a combo, but that doesn't seem to have had any effect on the numbers.

Sorry, no.

My guess would be that Freedom may even be a co-production, hence the non-Blu release.

I will only buy it if it is BD only not a BD/DVD combo, unlike Royal Space Force, and if it will come in an official BD case. The booklet and the movie can come in one box set, however, I want the movie to come in a BD case, and therefore I can place it next to my BD collection. This why I did not purchase Royal Space Force, I could care less about the BD/DVD combo and the bonus booklet, these extras increases the MSRP, and which it did. Jut for one film I am not going to pay $80.

No, they don't increase the SRP. A DVD-9 with case and artwork costs a dollar, and they even recycled the compression from the Japanese 1999 DVD.

Notice this is NOT a combo, and they're charging the same price

If you don't like how they packaged it, you're free to make your own artwork and stick it in an empty blu case

I guess that can work, however, I do not want to pay extra for extras; I buy movies for the movie, not for their bonus contents. I dislike bonus contents, they are waste of money.

This is a must buy for me. I'll be looking for the pre-order to show up.
