Default Samsung BD-P3600 vs Sony S550

I have the Sony, and am looking to buy a couple more Blue Ray's for other rooms. Here is what I want:

wireless connection
netflix streaming
audio equal or better than the Sony
picture equal or better than the sony

So, will the Samsung be a good one to purchase?

They're both top of the line players but Sony doesn't have Netflix streaming. However, if anything goes wrong with a Samsung BD player, you're pretty much on your own because their customer service is lower than dirt.

I'm a Sony person, so IMO, I see the light in Sony.

Are there any comparable blu ray players out there that have the same sound / picture quality of the sony that can do netflix streaming wirelessly? The picture / sound must be equal or better.

If not, then I will probably just get one Samsung for our non HT room just for the netflix streaming and leave my sony on my HT setup. Then, buy one more sony for in our bedroom.

Some LG models have similar features. You just have to browse around and do some research. This site will help you with the technical stuff with hundreds of opinions

My bad, I meant the sony s350, not the s550, so what about that comparison?

I will be having a Pioneer Kuro krp-500m as the TV, and a denon avr-1909 receiver.

Ditto! Worst customer service I have ever experienced!
I dumped mine, and bought a Sony S550 ... great player!

However, I just bought the new OPPO BDP-83 ...WOW!

Thumbs up

I bought the Samsung 3600 last week. I tried to update the f/w via USB and it bricked on me, but Best Buy swapped it out no problem. Other than that false start and a very slight lip-sync issue, it's a fantastic player, especially with my Samsung LCD. The DVD upconversion is unreal and looks better than most HD signals through my digital cable. Many people have problems with the Netflix/Pandora streaming, but from what I can gather it's not because of the player. It works great for me and I really enjoy the Netflix feature.

Wow, that OPPO BDP-83 sounds amazing!! I will probably purchase that to replace my s350, move the s350 to the bedroom, and purchase something for the living room.

So, does anyone know of a good chart that shows options of blu ray players? Specifically, if they do netflix streaming and wireless connection? I would like to compare them to see what to get for the living room. The sound / picture doesn't need to be the greatest as we would only watch movies there on occasion.

I will do some googling and see what I can find also.

http://www.netflix.com/NetflixReadyDevicesList

There are some listed here, seems only LG and Samsung products so far, unless this isn't up to date.

I have owned both the s550 and now the p3600. I have to say the 3600 blew the 550 away in my opinion. I had issues with my 550 from day one, nothing wrong with the player, it just didn't like my tv it seems. Anyway I sold the 550 and bought the 3600, and have never looked back. The wifi on the 3600 really sold me.

I owned a couple Samsung products which all were terrible. I have nothing but good things to say about my Sony products. I've had the 350 for about a year (bought it when it first came out) and haven't had one problem with it.

In terms of RELIABILITY, I'd say stay (or go with the 550). Listen, Samsung has had certain playback issues and what not, which I know you have probably heard of. Most importantly, how the F**K would anyone trust Samsung for saying, "We do not think Blu-ray would last more than five years...". Look it up, RESEARCH that statement. It is up to you, would you trust a company that is fully and truly behind Blu-ray (Sony, Panasonic) or a company that does not have hope for it...(Samsung). The CHOICE IS YOURS.

Yeah, it's a fantastic player. I got a new one no problem after the first messed up, so the new one works great. And from everything I've read on this forum and around the web, the lip-sync problem is not limited to Samsungs. It's barely even noticeable on my player, and really only on the Dark Knight disc, leading me to believe it's the copy.

Reading all the complaining about the Samsungs on this forum (and other players), I just wonder how many people just don't have their system set up right (by no fault of their own...it's certainly not easy, nor should be expected to...Blu-Ray is still a new technology).

I had plenty of problems and it's not the setup, it's the Samsung. Since I changed to the Pioneer 320 it plays everything I throw at it and never had a single issue.

I would never buy another Samsung player... Like others have said, their customer service is horrible and their players arent very reliable. Mine wasn't very good, and a great friend of mine had one take a dump on him as well... I would only get Sony, Pioneer or the Oppo players. And If I were in the market for a BD standalone, I would be buying the Oppo and calling it a day.

Exclamation Lip Sync and Reliability

First, on my S550 there is a setting for the lip-sync. Hit the Options button, select A/V settings, audio and set the time delay (in milliseconds, I think). I suspect that most players offer this feature. I kept playing with this setting until I didn't notice the sync problem any more.

I own a Sammy combo DVD/VHS unit. It lasted about a year before the DVD died. It played fine until then. The VHS player still works, but we seldom watch tapes any more. Why would we?

Unhappy Samsung blu-ray issues

I have numerous Samsung devices: TV's, DVD and blu-ray players.
I hadn't had an issue until my BDP-1500 purchase. Originally the system worked fine, but after 1 year, it began to freeze during play. Have to power off and wait a while, then power on and play again. Had to do this 6 times to complete one movie, last week.
I keep the firmware updated, so do not think this is the issue. Being over a year old, i don't have warranty, so am looking to buy a new player. Would like to get the BDP-3600, for the wireless, but don't want to risk same problem a year from now. I don't think Sony has wireless capability yet, do they?
Any recommendations?
