It looks like "Santo vs. Jinetes del Terror" will be coming to blu-ray later this year or early next year. It will include both the standard and "sexy" versions of the film. The name of the distributor wasn't specifically mentioned but I'm guessing it will be Indicator.

This was mentioned in a comment on the kickstarter for the restoration of the "sexy" version.

I know that it's only English, I know it's a minimum effort release from VCI, but screw it - I went and picked up the 8 movie boxed set. It was only 40 bucks, the lowest price it's been in a while (plus my case was cracked and the slip cover had a big old crease down the front - so they knocked off another 10 bucks. Thank you, terrible Amazon packaging!)

Yes, it's only dubbed, no Mexican at all - and the dubs range from the tolerable K. Gordon Murray dub on Santo in the Wax Museum to downright atrocious on Treasure of Dracula. There are some extras - each movie has a short intro from a film historian, one I don't recognize, so it's not Stephen Thrower or anyone like that, that runs for about 5 min. Plus there's an interview with Rene Cardona III, a overview of Santo that runs for about half an hour, a poster/lobby card gallery, and a 8 page book of liner notes.

As far as the movies go, I've not watched any of them yet. I did spin up each of the discs, just to get a sampling. Dub aside, the movies look pretty good, a huge step up from the old Rise Above DVDs. Yeah, it's still super cheap Mexican horror from seventy years ago, so temper your expectations, but it's not terrible looking.

So yeah, if you can get past the dub thing, it's not a worthless package.

EDIT - there is one thing I have to double check against my old DVDs, but it looks like the titles have all been replaced with English, and pretty obviously, too. You can tell they're computer generated on modern technology.

EDIT TWO - Apparently including the original Spanish dialogue track was never on the table? That was a demand of the rights holders. VCI would have loved to include them, but the rights holder cold shut them down. Here's an interview with the president of VCI talking about the issue:

I finally got around to watching Santo vs Doctor Death. Goddamned, this thing is GREAT!!!

Of all the El Santo movies I have seen – not an insignificant number, I might add – this thing is some S+ tier Santo. Sure the characters are all as deep as a teaspoon, and Doctor Mann's plot is truly baffling (more on that in a sec), but the action doesn't let up, the slow bits aren't too egregious, the ladies are beautiful, the fights are good and goddamned I love that swinging 60's theme!

So Doctor Mann's plot. Lets see if I have this right:

[Show spoiler]Doctor Mann kidnaps models who won't be missed, gives them cancer, harvests the cancer to use in a formula for a giant 3D printer that duplicates paintings which he then swaps with the original painting after he sprays acid on it to damage it, so the museums comes to him to restore.

And I thought Martians invading our planet to wrestle Earth's greatest champion was a weird plot.

The UK limited edition remains available for now. The machine-readable side of the discs is identical (pressed from the same master) but there are small localised differences on the packaging.

When the UK edition has sold out, there will be standard editions as per usual, although they won't include the 80-page book.

Glad another Santo film in its original language is coming. I just started watching old Mexican luchador movies last year & they’re really campy fun. I hope we get more.

This really should have been paired with other movies. I like Santo movies and i've been dying for them to get proper releases but imo, they aren't good enough for single expensive releases. I enjoyed Indicators' first set and was hoping for more sets in the future. I wonder why they are going this way?

Yeah it's somewhat of a shame they didn't just make a box set of the René Cardona movies they are releasing at the same time. But I will still take more Santo!

Sweet just got shipping notification for the Cardona films from Indicator. First time ordering direct from them, so no idea how long it will take to reach the other side of the world, but really looking forward to checking these out.

Very cool that Indicator is apparently starting to release the Santo movies from the highly compromised DNR’d VCI set in properly remastered versions with the original Spanish language tracks. I hope they rescue all of them! Next payday I’ll be ordering all three of the Cardona releases from last March.

No, but they released Santo Vs the Riders of Terror which was in the VCI set, so I’m hoping they release the rest of those titles.
