I’m learning not to buy their DVDs as so many have been upgraded (Dragon’s Return, Morgiana, Fugitive Images) and Third Part from Eureka.

In their defense, usually several years pass before they do a blu-ray upgrade of a DVD. Being a very niche label with no mainstream (even mainstream arthouse like Bergman, Fellini, Godard type) in their catalog they have to really mind their margins, and they took a long time to even shift to blu-ray because of the price differences in authoring and pressing.

Gap between DVD and BD:
Three Wishes for Cinderella - 8 years
Dragon's Return - 7 years
Morgiana - 13 years
Fugitive Images - 7 years, and is not a direct port since it has a lot more content than the DVD which only had 2 films.

You can always gift the DVD to a budding cinephile friend or even a library (I doubt most streaming networks would host these movies)

Tried to find out what Three Wishes For Cinderella is, only to find out it‘s a German Christmas classic. This is on TV every year around Nov-Jan like 40 times over here. On December 25 alone this runs four times on three different tv stations Every year end of November is a exhibition at Castle Moritzburg in Dresden where this was shot, with costumes and props and what not. German title is „Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel“ / „Three Hazelnuts for Aschenbrödel“. It’s from Grimms Aschenputtel and Němcová O Popelce (About Aschenputtel).

Has it been confirmed whether or not there have been defective units of DAYS / AFTERNOON going around, or are all of them corrected? Thanks in advance.

I wish someone would release that classic short (starring a brit) that is shown on LITERALLY every TV station in Germany every Christmas.

It's Dinner for One like RossyG said, but it's not shown on Christmas in Germany, it's shown every New Year's Eve since the early 60s. It's a theater sketch that was recorded live with audience in Hamburg. Originally the two actors did the sketch in Britain since the early 40s and some Germans discovered them, and booked them for a theater in Hamburg where it then was recorded. It's only released on DVD multiple times over here.

I got the time of year mixed up although I did know it was in December. Anyway I first heard of this short on an episode of QI during the Stephen Fry period (the first 13 series (A-M) & pilot) of hosting & the clip they showed was funny. Maybe this would be good in another short film collection (ideally a non-horror one) in the BFI Flipside series.

It was said in some places that Morgiana was going to be in Severins second folk horror set, but that didn't turn out to be the case. I've never seen the film, but have seen both it and Dragons Return referred to as folk horror at different times.

There's a film called Jesters Tale that Second Run currently only have on dvd that I'd like to see on BD. I hope it's not too far off in the future.

I was hoping as well that they might pick this up for a UK release, it seems like their type of thing, and it's too expensive to import a copy of the Deaf Crocodile edition. https://www.mondo-digital.com/stakh.html

Karel Zeman's The Stolen Airship has been restored in HD and is out in the Czech Republic. Hopefully that'll be coming from Second Run next year.

Speaking of Deaf Crocodile, as Eidolon was above (and apologies if this has already been discussed) :

I'm reluctant to buy this

... despite it being an all-time favourite of my wife ... in the hope that Second Run (or someone) may bring it out in the UK.

We only have an old Czech DVD with no English subtitles.
I believe there was a Czech BD (with English subs) but seems to be OOP.

Second Run did release "Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea" so they have form in this general area.

Oh and while I'm at it - "You Are a Widow, Sir" is good fun if any label fancies releasing that one.

**awaits barrage of posts pointing out these titles are already available if only I had been paying attention**

I’m wondering if Vorlíček‘a The Girl on the Broomstick might get announced soon, as I’ve seen several people log it on Letterboxd recently and AFAIK it’s not streaming anywhere yet…

Ditto. Love the Deaf Crocodile titles I own and they clearly produce excellent discs, but they're not the cheapest to import and I'm beginning to face the same dilemma that Second Run will eventually cover some of the same films. However, I think DC pay for some of the restorations themselves, so in theory those titles are less likely to arrive here. Of course, Radiance might find the time to license and host the label over here - I can dream.

It was recently added to the Criterion Channel - streamed it for Halloween Month. Wouldn't say no to a physical release.

Fingers crossed they've secured some of Szulkin's short films and/or Bewitching Eyes. I know for certain that Michael Brooke has recorded a commentary for this release.

There is already two releases (both English friendly) for THE GIRL ON THE BROOMSTICK; a German release and a Czech release. Even though I felt that this will probably be released by Second Run one day soon, I recently purchased the German version and didn’t regret it at all. It’s a super fun film, and the blu ray itself is excellent.
