The Academy was always kind of irrelevant but it's moreso today. I don't understand why it still exists. It's an organization made up of actors and executives and all they do is pat each other on the back every year. I don't think I've ever agreed with any of the Best Picture winners.

I haven't cared about the Oscars since the 90s, there was still some kinda vibe about it back then.

Nonsense. Read a book on Hollywood history.
Because it's an award recognized worldwide that's still watched by dozens of millions of people and professionally meaningful to those who win it. Quote:

If you think winners such as The Godfather, The Apartment, Lawrence of Arabia, On the Waterfront, Casablanca, Unforgiven etc. aren't worthy then your taste in movies is an outlier and should be no metric for the justification of the existence of an institution such as the Academy. |

I can understand that they do to people in Hollywood because people tend to like to get rewards within their line of work, but I have no incentive to care now. Last edited by rocknblues81; 12-13-2024 at 03:04 PM. |

Then, there were at least four times AFTER that first time where I was debating leaving my friend behind and just escaping the histrionic nightmare. It's one of those movies where it's so awful, I can't even sort my thoughts enough to properly state my distaste. The horrendous CGI was another destroyer of my viewing experience. David Fincher, the one that always had a keen eye for CGI, resorted to making hideously outdated VFX that shot me out of the immersion, looking worse than it should even at time of release. SMH. |

Yes. When others disagree with your personal view, it's 'nonsense' and ignorance.

Saying that winners are the reason for disregarding someone's opinion (as your basis for argument as if it's fact) means that we cannot put into account any and all potential movies that another individual being argued against felt was better... again, based purely on opinion. Not fact. So ultimately, I feel one can disagree with a "Best Picture" nomination (or any and all other nominations and winners) and feel that something else was more poignant and memorable that year than what was voted in by the peers who have a lot of political, personal, adversarial, and professional investment in their vote in ways that the general public give zero farts about. I tend to watch the Best Picture nominations for the chance to see something I might like that wasn't on my viewing list/radar. That brought me to Moonlinght, Green Book, and a few other gems that I wouldn't have watched otherwise. But then, there's the other 6-8 Best Picture nominations that I absolutely abhor and wish I didn't suffer through. So, there's that. |

As I have done with several releases given I am not a Steelbook guy, and (although Panic Room is not very elaborate) I yearn for the days when studios did nicer packaging, I think I'll probably keep my nearly worthless 3-disc DVD and swap the 4K/BD discs into that.

The trailers not included seems like an oversight. I can't think of many 4Ks from Sony except for Stand by Me and The Fifth Element (definitely music rights on the latter, which is unfortunate, because it's a peerless classic of a trailer).
The Social Network is even getting its trailers which had been missing on all Blu-ray releases. Very odd. |
