This isn't regarding the theatrical editions, but does anyone know if the special features for the extended editions will be in HD or standard definition?

You do realize that LOTR fans are not some hive mind that is collectively known as George Lucas, right? Why don't you save that rage for the man who is to blame for the lack of a decent release of the unaltered Star Wars Trilogy. Heck, I'm sure he's busy tinkering with them for yet another SE that's to premier some day down the road on BD.

Hopefully the delay is for similar reasons to The Exorcist (also a Warner Bros. release). To include both editions of the movie (theatrical and extended.) We can only hope.

Well, if the delay is true...I smell seamless branching. Any director knows that's the way to go.

I have no idea why the delay is true, could be any number of reasons and I doubt we'll ever know what they are. I just hope it's soon, can't wait to see the best fantasy/adventure series ever on blu-ray.

One can only hope but I doubt it will happen. Yes, it is the way to go but not for New Line/WB. They want to milk it as much as they can.

How can they even make seamless branching on these movies. There are scenes that is different not to mention the running time i way to long for seamless branching and where to put all the audio commentaries.
Seamless is impossible for LOTR trilogy

I for one am sick of all the delays to big name titles. It started with Alien quadrilogy and Indiana Jones trilogy and now this. Holiday season for 2009 blu-ray was looking unbelievable but with these all pushed back it really took some of the punch away. If they really want blu-ray to take over dvd then they better start getting the big guns out. They said 2009 the flood gates were gonna open..... it has been more like a little trickle of a rain storm. At this rate Star Wars won't be coming out until like 2015 at earliest.

well they were able to do that on DVD's, so I am sure they will be able to do that on Blu-ray...
