It’s all a bit of a mess.

I wouldn't even mind us getting a later release date, I just want confirmation of a region B 4K/blu-ray package.

I would have pre-ordered the US version by now but my PS5 won't play the blu-ray and I don't think the extra money (considering postage) is worth it when 1 of the discs won't work for me.

I can't even buy a region-free player because I'm using all my HDMIs

You could just buy it now and add the UK Blu-ray down the line? Expensive option, but better than waiting until the summer. Just use a two disc 4K case, and put the Blu-ray in there with it if you don’t want separate cases.

The U.S release is on a Tuesday as well. I think it’s genuine. Expect this to be the case for the likes of Bird too. Something is going on, just wish I knew what it was.

For those looking for The Substance 4K news there's something on MUBI's site:

Candle is Made in Britain. We can't make Blu-rays any more but we do some damn fine candles.

I guess it won't be long before The Girl With the Needle gets physical releases in light of its Oscar nomination yesterday.

The UK cinema release has been very limited, so unless it somehow wins an Oscar I’m very doubtful it will get one.

This is so ridiculous (and pricey!) that I have to approve it.

God knows what’s going on with MUBI’s physical distribution at the moment but it’s a bit of a joke. Tried to reach them through socials but it was a bit of a fool’s errand.

Yeah really weird they've apparently put their UK distribution on hold? Figured they'd have at least sorted out The Substance by now but strange that it's available to import but not in the shops here. Same goes for Queer, and the other upcoming titles, which all seem to have a placeholder date still.

Equally strange why they haven't done anything with The Fall yet, which is getting an Aussie disc soon but you'd have assumed they would've at least sorted out UK and US discs first. I wonder what's going on?

The Fall on UHD is one of the major reasons I'm regularly checking the thread.

Lots of their releases have been out of stock for ages (e.g. Drive My Car) - maybe they're just not going to do physical releases any more

Would be a pretty crazy heel turn considering they were planning releases for stuff as late as December last year but that’s kinda what I’m fearing.

That would be a very short-sighted move considering streaming services alone are notorious for running at a loss (looking at you Disney+) and the streaming service bubble like the Dot Com Bubble before it will likely burst at some point.

More likely that they just aren’t keeping up with the demand so far,
most labels go through this more than once.

Even criterion do it fairly regularly.

Just got an email from HMV saying Dahomey will be released on 10 March. Hopefully this means they will be finalising release dates for The Substance and Bird soon.
