I dont have Braveheart yet, but I can only imagine, especially when Gladiator was so beautiful for me at least. I dont know about the rest of the World

Well we're assuming that Universal didn't permanently bake in the DNR/EE and object removal. For all we know the Blu-Ray represents what is now the studio's only digital master. Honestly nothing would surprise me at this point.

You are not supposed to, period. Set the player for 24p out, leave all settings to zero, disable all "image enhancing" features and view the movie on a properly calibrated display, the settings of which you do not adjust to suit each and every movie.

You mean "what my Panasonic BD30 did" because Denon 2500 is the exact same player inside. A cheap Panny, in other words. I guess it's you who has no idea of what they're doing.

Again, bullcrap. You've bought into marketing, hype, fancy technical terms and the "bigger number must prove it's better" school of thinking.

'nuff said. Case closed.

Well said- was getting ready to say the same things in rebuttal. Anyone who says they can't see the EE on this title either is sitting too far away or doesn't have their equipment set up correctly. I still enjoy the film and it's a definite upgrade over the DVD but I'm disappointed in it.

Seriously, Mokus- quit espousing your purchases as being better than everyone else's because they cost more. I've seen plenty of Kuro owners in this thread that can't see EE apparently, and all that means to me is that they spent too much money on their set.

You are personally certain that there exists a full beginning to end master that is good enough to make a Blu-ray with that is top quality? Have you seen this master? I'm pretty sure we're all just guessing here.

There has got to be some reason why we got what we got.

Somebody over on AVS Forums a few days ago said that he heard from some insiders that there is a really good 1080p master that was meant to be used for an HD-DVD release a while back. Unsure whether it's true or not.

I didn't see the halo effect as well as others and I couldn't really tell by the PQ which scenes were extended ones(on my Sammy 40" LCD 1080p). The review here at bluray.com is quite accurate in my estimation.
Nice summary SDon. I should have added in my writeup, totally worth 7.99

There is only 1 questions that have to be asked, and none of them have to do with Patton. In fact, it is a very personal question based one's point of view.

1-Will I buy Gladiator?

Imao, the PQ is not reference quality, but it is by no means utterly terrible.

All I am saying is why do you think a Panasonic is better then a Denon?
Why is everyone comparing Panasonic to Denon, Marantz etc.?
Thats like comparing a Ford Fiesta to a Ferrari.
I owned alot of brands before Denon, even Pioneer Elite, Sony ES etc. and at this moment in time I am staying with Denon for a long time to come.
If you like Panny's go for it, but dont complain when you cant play your movies cause you need a firmware update or something else happens during a movie viewing.
I am not the one who is Brainwashed, I know what I see and hear!!!

Master or not, they could always go back to the original film negative and re-scan it. I mean this happens all the time when old masters are deemed sub-standard for new formats. It's nothing new, I'm just not sure why it wasn't done in this case if it's so obvious the old master was not up to par.

*****BACK TO THE GLADIATOR THREAD**********

For those of you who have watched Gladiator what did you think of the PQ?

I thought it was good, but not great. It was not as bad as the hype would have my believe.

And the battle rages on..

Gladiator...should have and could have looked better. For a high profile release, it's disappointing. Still a great movie though.

Yeah I have the Samsung 1500. I watched Shawshank last night and it ran perfectly, it has to be disc compatibility issues. Certain scenes just pause like if the chapter was changing, it must have something to do with the extended edition. I haven't watched the theatrical on Blu-ray. Only the extended. I'm guessing when the extended scene is comingup the system pauses to find the right file.

Exactly. If one does not exist already they should have made a new one. Some people claim to know what does and doesn't exist though and there is likely no way for anyone here to know.

It would be interesting to know the reason why they used an old one. Was it just the cost to make a new one or was there more to it than that?
