Certain movies I'd upgrade in every format and every "remaster". I want the best version available.

Not many. Mainly just upgraded my favourite movies from DVD then to BD then to 4K, but probably about 50 or so. Classics like the Sergio Leone Westerns, or Blade Runner, Star Wars OT, things like that.

5 different versions of dbz
3 different versions of harry potter
3 different versions of lord of the rings
3 different versons of game of thrones
3 different versions of smallville
3 different versions of outlaw star
3 different versions of Aladdin plus the live action remake
3 different versions of walle

Then i have quite a few doubles somtimes i buy a blu ray then see a nice slip and double dip, sometimes its blu ray to 4k and somtimes its just a nice steel even though i already own the 4k.

I try to sell at least some of my duplicates if they have enough value to make it worthwhile anyway.

Godzilla movies I tend to buy every release of across different formats and even different releases within the same format. The one in particular I have the most of is Godzilla vs. Megalon. I'm pretty sure I have every one of the public domain VHS tapes as well as the official DVD and Bluray releases. I even intend to buy the Japanese laserdisc down the road although I have a bootleg of that on VHS!

Recently The Batman

The Original Steelbook
The Second Release Steelbook with the better European cover
The 4K just because of the slip and it was $10 on BF
The Bluray/DVD combo [again $10 on BF] because I needed to repurpose the package and get the DVD as part of a larger DVD package for a Christmas gift [Color Copiers are a wonderful thing!]

I never entertained the thought of double dipping. But I can mention several Blu Rays that are worthy of double-dipping due to the different companies, exclusive features and artworks...

1) Tank Girl: While the Eureka Blu has great amount of features, the Umbrella Blu has much better artwork, art cards and a newer interview with Lori Petty. The movie grew on me and while it's pretty doggone good, it is worth double dipping for the features.

2) Perdita Durango: Severin has great artwork for the slipcover. Arrow has more features, art cards, movie posted and part of a trilogy of films directed by Alex De La Iglesia. Arrow is the best release to choose from. Severin has great artwork for the slipcover though.

3) Ebola Syndrome: While the Vinegar Syndrome has Blu and 4K along with more features, the Arrow artwork is KILLER, has better subtitles and has the reversible movie poster. Sadly, neither version has the theatrical trailer, though.

4) The Devil's Honey: The first Severin release has the best artwork (the one with the saxophone, limited to 1,000 copies). The 88Films version has this amazing velvet slipcover, though. Not to mention, better sound than the Severin release. The 88Films Blu menu is very boring, though.

I didn't actually upgrade a massive amount of stuff in the early bluray era, still had a relatively modest sized TV at that point and DVD's looked decent on it.

So a lot of what I'v upgraded has tended to be from old DVD's straight to UHD or to higher end latter day blurays.

This list will get insane if I include Disney as I usually rebuy the animated canon on every format, so I'll leave it off. I'll also leave off anything that's only been double-dipped once as I replaced most of my DVD collection with BD, so that would blow this list up.

The Wizard of Oz (2 VHS, 3 DVD, 1 BD, 1 3DBD, 1 UHD)
Casablanca (1 DVD, 2 BD, 1 UHD)
Singin' in the Rain (1 DVD, 1 BD, 1 UHD)
Ben-Hur (2 DVD, 1 BD)
Jesus Christ Superstar (2 DVD, 1 BD)
Jesus of Nazareth (1 VHS, 1 DVD, 1 BD)
The Wiz (2 DVD, 1 BD)
Star Wars (1 VHS, 1 DVD, 1 BD, 1 UHD)
Indiana Jones (1 DVD, 1 BD, 1 UHD)
The Neverending Story (1 VHS, 1 DVD, 1 BD, 1 UHD)
Back to the Future (1 DVD, 1 BD, 1 UHD)
Labyrinth (2 DVD, 1 BD, 1 UHD)
The Bible Series (2 DVD, 1 BD)
Titanic (1 VHS, 1 DVD, 1 BD, 1 UHD)
Alice in Wonderland (1999) (1 VHS, 2 DVD)
Harry Potter (1 DVD, 2 BD, 1 UHD)
The Lord of the Rings (2 DVD, 1 BD)
Spider-Man (1 DVD, 2 BD, 1 UHD)

My dad's VHS collection - yes I said VHS - is 80% made up of movies I gave him when I upgraded to DVD's.

So that's why my dad has VHS and DVD copies of Goodfellas, Braveheart, Godfathers 1&2, A Few Good Men among others....
