To me George Sewell had the perfect features for the type of roles he played during those times liked his turns as cowardly hard man in "man in a suitcase" and the more tougher version in " the Sweeney " some years later.

United Kingdom Get your trousers on, you’re nicked! / June 2025

Fifty years ago, The Sweeney bust open the door and exploded onto TV screens, forever changing the face of TV police drama. Detective Inspector Jack Regan (John Thaw) and Detective Sergeant George Carter (Dennis Waterman) of the Flying Squad had only one rule when it came to taking down London criminals – forget the rules! Audiences were blown away by this new depiction of the police as flawed and realistic characters willing and ready to bend the rules if it meant keeping the streets safe. In this groundbreaking first season, featuring a new 2025 restoration on Blu-ray in the original broadcast aspect ratio, The Sweeney take on kidnappers, hijackers, bank robbers and worse.

This definitive collector’s boxset includes two versions of the original Armchair Cinema episode ‘Regan’ that launched the series together with a heist’s worth of special features and bonus materials. Now watch it and shut it!

Special Features:
Option to view episodes in original Mono, 5.1 Surround sound, or isolated music only tracks
Armchair Cinema: Regan (original & 50-minute versions)
Interview with series creator Ian Kennedy-Martin
Restoring the Sweeney
Reconstructed Titles from Original Stills
Vintage Thames Trailer for Jackpot
Introduction to Queen’s Pawn by Tony Shelby
Introduction to The Placer by John Forgeham
Introduction to Cover Story by Prunella Gee
Introduction to Golden Boy by Dudley Sutton
Introduction to Stoppo Driver by Billy Murray
Introduction to Big Spender by Warren Mitchell
Introduction to Abduction by Wanda Ventham
Audio Commentary on Armchair Cinema: Regan by actor Dennis Waterman, producer Ted Childs & director Tom Clegg
Audio Commentary on Ringer with actors Dennis Waterman, Garfield Morgan, writer Trevor Preston & editor Chris Burt
Audio Commentary on Jackpot with authors of ”The Sweeney: The Official Companion” Robert Fairclough & Mike Kenwood
Audio Commentary on Thin Ice with producer Ted Childs, writer Troy Kennedy-Martin & director Tom Clegg
Audio Commentary on Night Out with director David Wickes & assistant director Bill Westley
Additional Audio Commentary on Night Out with producer Ted Childs & writer Troy Kennedy-Martin
Audio Commentary on Stoppo Driver with actors Dennis Waterman & Garfield Morgan
Audio Commentary on Abduction with actors Dennis Waterman, Garfield Morgan, writer Trevor Preston & director Tom Clegg
Brand new, exclusive booklet on Series 1 by archive television historian Andrew Pixley

For me there were far more interesting and varied actors of that period.

The Man in the Suitcase episode with George Sewell, The Sitting Pigeon is one of my favourites from the series. It was a treat for me to see Sewell in the The Sweeney, Bait. Seeing these actors appearing in one episode of The Sweeney adds another level to the already many levels of interest and enjoyment.

In series one there is Brian Blessed, Warren Clarke, Brian Glover, Ian Hendry, Julian Glover, Warren Mitchell, Dudley Sutton just for a start.

£49.99 is a good price guy's not bad at all for this series 1 collection of The Sweeney that's a lot of television for a good price. Just remember these days 4K Ultra HD movies are releasing for £24.99 and above just for a film! So yeah no complaints at all with this sets pricing. Super happy about this news I'm off to the gym to celebrate

Did the original blu-ray release of this have English subtitles? Hopefully this one will.

Yes, the Network series 1 BD did have English subtitles on the episodes, which is nice and useful to have.

If they have Regan in 25fps it’s a sale.

I’ll wait for confirmation of that first before ordering.

But I’ll be up for series 2-4.

New 2025 restoration. If done right it should be an upgrade on the now ancient first series and Regan blus.

Support this release regardless mate, it's worth the upgrade alone over the Network release of series 1 the NEW 2025 restorations will match along with series 2, 3, and 4

Unfortunately, my copies of series 1 and Regan are in a storage unit on the other side (your side) of the world as I’d like to be putting those on eBay immediately.

Exactly! For 50 sovs you are getting 11 hours of HD entertainment just with the main feature, so IMO it is worth every penny. With the HMV 20% discount code it will be £40.

In this review of the Network's Series 1 BD it states it as selling for £39.99 which is 12 years ago and that is without the Regan pilot included.

Regan was 24fps/1080p and not pitch corrected. It sounded off throughout.

Series one was 25fps/1080i and was fine. Excellent in fact.

NB. Regan was a stand-alone release not an extra as here.

What’s the difference between the two versions of Regan and which one was released by Network?

Thanks that explains it - I watched both the DVD and Blu Ray recently and I thought it sounded off!
