I re-watched the bridge scene in slow motion. Doc O throws three cars toward the screen but none of them break the plane. Given your earlier problems with seeing pop-outs on your system I was pretty surprised that you might catch one I didn't. I did, however, notice 4 more pop-outs and put them in the list. Sadly, the concrete pipes he was tossing about looked like they might have been great pop-outs had this been an IMAX presentation instead of Cinemascope.

Fast and weak popout that you have to train your eyes to see just ain't the way to make 3D movies, at least not for a general audience.
I agree. Even though I like it, most people are not at all impressed by a guy standing slightly outside the screen, particularly when half his body is cut off by the edge of the screen. One of the pop-outs I just added, while very strong, was under a second and partly out of frame.

Forgot to ask, did this play in IMAX 3D anywhere?

Thanks, I didn't get to see this in IMAX but I'd be willing to bet that the pipes Doc Oc grabbed during the bridge scene were the best pop-outs of the movie in IMAX. In the bluray AR, they never were in frame.

India got an IMAX 3D release as well.

Default A Long Day's Journey into Night

I pretty much figured this would be a quick read since half the movie isn't even in 3D and I wasn't wrong. I listed five pop-outs but there were a few times more where a body bulged out of the screen. Overall, the least impressive to date for pop-outs, as far as my present list is concerned. Known for a large continuous shot in 3D it is not without 3D interest. I particularly like the way some of the lights shine out of rooms in the background. Your mileage may vary.

Just some guy looking for a girl. It didn't do much for me either and I started this movie at the tracking shot having seen the movie before. I hoped for more as we really lack in 3D drama. But even the tracking shot is fairly dull with some unlikely dialogue, hopefully just poorly translated since my impression was that the movie is somewhat popular in China.

Yeah I got that he was looking for a girl. But I think this quote from the Wiki explains it best:
Despite its strong presales, it faded quickly from the box-office charts,... In China, its massive early box office success led to a backlash; the hashtag “can’t understand Long Day’s Journey Into Night” trended on social media, and users of the ticketing platform Maoyan drove its aggregate user rating down Anyway I didn't want to bog down a pop-outs thread with my meanderings which is why I replied in the general thread

Default Prometheus

This is a much better movie in 3D and maybe I was a little harsh when it first came out but I hope we can all still agree that Covenant sucks.

Revisiting movies after a long time is always fun, for instance just 4 years before Doctor Strange, a younger, thinner, sorcerer supreme is found on deck aboard the Prometheus, the ill-fated titular ship of said movie. I found a minimum of 37 pop-outs in this sci-fi spectacular and some of them aren't bad. The strongest of these are mostly storm debris or particles. One fairly strong exception is an escape pod towards the end. You can see my pop-out ranking in the first post of this thread and a list of timestamps with descriptions in the link below. Let me know if I missed anything you thought was special.

Again as usual, I viewed this movie with my BenQ TK800
Since I had a tape measure handy, I decided to measure my screen and distance more accurately than before. My estimate of 12' from the screen holds and my screen size (measured diagonally) is 154". This measured at full menu height (16x9). Prometheus is 2.40:1, however.

Lots of pop-outs in I, The Jury. Mostly heads and bodies coming-out-of-the-screen.

You don't have Captain America Civil War on your list. Starting from the final Airport stand off scene where they face each other I counted 13 pop-outs and I didn't finish the scene. I'm also curious if @JD3D can see these pop-outs?

If it's "blink and you miss it", or relies in large part on 2D depth cues then probably not. I wound up with a copy of the bluray though, so I'll have to see.

I didn't count some of the "blink and you miss" pop-outs as there are a number of excellent static shots. For example, the very first pop-out in the final airport stand off is BW talking to Steve Rogers with her head and right shoulder clearly popping out of the screen. Another clear pop-out is where Iron Man is hovering and talking to Clint with his hand is extended towards us. But there are also some great action pop-outs as well.

It is also one of the better remakes I've seen of a movie that didn't need one.
I keep reading in the reviews that most of the movie is at night and those shots are too dark, lack detail and are flat in 3D.

I love Prometheus in 3-D, excellent film I thought. Ditto Covenant (except for the 3-D of course, cuz there ain’t any), so I can’t agree with you on that bit. Both films wildly exceeded my expectations. Haven’t seen the latest Alien film yet.
