How would this game be for a 10 year old who loves Minecraft?

There is a lot of planet jumping and mineral hunting. Thankfully they added portals you can use to go back to planets. You need to mine fuel for the ship. Then Fuel for the hyper drive.

So if they like exploring, building, and resource management then yes.

Minecraft is way more interactive and immersive. I think they would get bored quickly as there is very little to do on the planets, it’s very repetitive.

I don't think so. No Man’s Sky took my breath away many times with its incredible space views, battles, and atmosphere. Not to mention how you enter and exit the atmosphere without any loading. Just incredible. Minecraft on the other hand would be more appealing to young children.

And I answered exactly that Minecraft is more suitable for a child, but in no way is more interactive and immersive than No Man’s Sky. Even the sky is not the limit there.

Landing on a planet is a satisfying experience no matter how many times it happens. Having a capital ship and a fleet is incredible. Being a Pirate or Explorer is great. The game really does not need a over arching story as it is a sandbox. Do what you want and create your own story.

Now you have have Freighters.

It is to a ten year old. It’s basically digital Lego. As I said before, a child is going to get bored with the same planets and countless trudging long distances for very little reward.

But we all have different opinions, but in my opinion, a child will soon get bored.

Every game has an end, and it's when you get bored. Whether you're a kid or an adult, whether you've played for 10, 100 or 1000 hours. And for each one, this end comes at a different time. I can't stand the angular and cube-shaped world of Minecraft. It never appealed to me, but space... the stars. For me, it's like the Holy Grail. And it can be for a child too. So instead of choosing for them, let's give them the chance to judge for themselves.

I mean, forums are for opinions. A question was asked, I answered.

If you're good at creating your own fun in games and just need a playground, then NMS would be good. I still can find fun things to do in most open games, but the maps have to be interesting to explore like Ghost Recon Wildlands as a great example of terrain variety. In No Man's Sky, sometimes they are, but most of the time, not so much. Too many planets look the same and the same boring layout of wide open landscape with sparsely placed short plant trees.

Where is the planet that looks like a giant Redwood forest like on Endor in Star Wars? There is no such planet. The game doesn't have those kinds of graphics. I think because it would crash under that may trees onscreen at one time. It's not made that way. Just not enough visual terrain variety for what I'm looking for, but it's a clever game even so.

I am glad No Man's Sky was made. It's a starting point for space travel gaming.

As far as landing on planets, like Star Wars Outlaws, the gamer is "treated" to thick clouds and atmosphere when approaching for landing so you don't actually see the loading or smooth switch from far away to landing at all. It's just a cloudy loading screen. Let's see them show it without any clouds or fog. That would make it more believable IMO.

I'm at that point with No Man's Sky, but other games too that just don't have enough fun things to do in the game other than fire at enemies or collect items.

I know I push for an original, full story for NMS, but after the story is completed, then it's the same stuff again, so not sure how long the story would keep things interesting; but it would've helped IMO.

In creative mode in NMS, it is very limiting in that even when your ship is fully powered up with all the tech installed, the darn game refuses to let me warp more than 2 galaxies away, unlike Normal Mode which let you go way farther. Hello Games seems to have ignored Creative modes flaws, yet continue to call it "Like Normal mode but no damage". Not true. That is false on their part in that there are new limits.

With all of the procedural generated graphics/layout/creatures/plants, I do wish they applied that to the buildings too. Seeing the same bases on every planet doesn't inspire me to check them out. Some repetition is fine, but vary the buildings so across a giant galaxy, they're not using the same cut/paste building manufacturer/designer.

How about organic buildings? Like on Endor, made of trees, fibers, vines, twigs, branches and moss? That would be cool to see in NMS.

Also, this was way more fun in VR, the immersion slightly made up for the lack of discoveries, but something like being able to find an incredibly rare mineral on each planet would hs e made it more appealing, or maybe the ability to discover a new alien life form not seen elsewhere (dead), with the option to take samples and study it, then maybe visit a lab for info.

They added a Dinosaur fossils discovery of bones to the game. I'll have to test that out. I still play it in very short bursts before my interest fades in about 10 to 15 minutes, so there is still some game value.

And as you said, the PSVR version was a welcome idea. It does suffer less items onscreen, but nothing as bad as Hitman 3 on PSVR1. That game was so scaled back that the shelf 3 meters away looks empty. Then you walk within 2 meters and suddenly, lots of bottles appear out of thin air onto the shelf. Then disappear if you walk back a step. This game in VR, not nearly as bad thankfully.

I played through all the Hitman games flat when I got my ps5.
It was frustrating in VR, but still fun.

He says in the video "New Terrain", and they show a ship flying over basic looking mountains. Not to break chops, but the pop in is still jarring at times.

I am surprised Hello Games was still adding new updates and features, as they've been very busy with that new procedurally generated fantasy genre game they're bringing out probably by 2026 with dragons and monsters. Procedural generated maps, I'll pass but I'll at least look at the gameplay and reviews.

2D, the suburban houses/street/trees map is my favorite.

Mine was the English countryside mansion, and the murder mystery.
