Yeah it's pretty ugly, as usual. Getting tired of seeing World designs being used for the original films.

But if the original got a proper remaster this time I'm not really complaining!

Wasn't that a really fancy collection though? Not a basic steelbook? And also I thought Universal did a pretty good job generally of keeping things in stock/in print that sell well

I'm not big on Steelbooks at all, but both these sets are now on my Amazon list. I'm glad I waited to buy any of the films in 4K, since the original boxset had terrible video scores for the first and third entries.

Are these really going to sell out? I can't imagine more than the diehards buying these. I'll wait it out until we get trusted reviews. If I miss out I miss out.

Even at $130 for two sets, that's still just over $20 per film, which is great for a high-profile 4K SteelBook. I'll probably still make custom covers for them though, because I don't want the discs getting scratched.

Then why such a weird release? You’d think this would get a stand-alone release, major press of a new transfer, and also a non-steelbook trilogy pack considering JP’s one of the top grossing movies ever made and has had notoriously bad home video releases. And why did they wait this long?

I mean, I hope you’re right, I really do, and I don’t doubt you. It just seems rather self-defeating. It’s not quite Star Wars original trilogy level but still weird to not really hype it up if this finally looks great on 4K with a completely new scan.

I saw JP on a 35mm print in 2018 and it looked fantastic, so this could be a highlight of the 4K format. I also wonder if streaming versions will be automatically upgraded, since I don’t plan to buy this again until it gets a solo release.

Two words - "advance marketing". The newest entry hits on July 2nd, and they want to sell plenty of copies before then.

I'm not sure if hearing that all films have DV makes me less hopeful or more hopeful that JP has had a "full rebuild / fresh scan / whatever".

I'd have probably rebought all 6 if they were improved if they had been standards but I'm not buying something I already have in packaging I hate. Nice try, Universal lol

Because most people buying 4Ks don't give a shit. They've got it on 4K, why do they need to buy it again? Universal could just as easily have re-released the old discs in a new case and been done with it. But the studios are aware that the boutique model is working quite well for them, if you give something a new encode of an existing master (or even a new transfer) and a DV pass in fancy limited edition packaging then the collectors and connoisseurs - of which there are surprisingly few, even in a niche of a niche format like 4K - will snap it up so the studios aren't losing money by printing tens of thousands of copies.

That said, even the remastered Shaun of the Dead got a standalone release and not just a steel, so why no such one for JP? Beats me. But I think it's also a a clear exercise in money grabbing re: JP, if people only want the first one they've got to have all three...for now

I expect UK releases will drop in the next few weeks/months, in the meantime I put in pre-orders with Amazon for both, no harm and locks them in now.

My main reasons for wanting these sets are the new transfers for the poorly-done previous entries, Dolby Vision being added, and the price being surprisingly reasonable for SteelBooks in general. But Like I said, I'll definitely be making custom covers, with regular cases.

I’m juiced about this but I’m only interested in the Spielberg entries.

Zavvi made standalone steelbooks for each film last time, could that happen again with these new remastered discs..?

When does Amazon.com charge for pre-orders? Is it at the point of ordering or close to release date? Cheers.
