You know I'm a fan of good hip-hop music and in a time when there's not a lot of it being made, it's great to see hear Kanye West come out with the kind of music that he does that I enjoy. What he did tonight does not change my opinion about him as an artist, but I do agree that what Kanye did was out of line. Not only did he claim that Beyonce's video was one of the best video of the "all time" (which I completely disagree with), but he took away Taylor Swift's moment. What could have been going through her mind while that was happening? I say that Jay-Z abused his status by supposedly keeping Chris Brown off the BET Awards this year by threatening the company of a no-show if they let Brown on stage, and in this case, Kanye did much the same thing, although he did it in front of a huge live audience, both in attendance and at home. You can't un-ring a bell. That moment will be talked about for years to come.

Kanye West is a great artist, but I don't think any apology will make up for what he did. Someone said earlier how would he feel if it happened to him? Well I don't think he would be speechless about it.

I will say this too though, isn't it kind of odd that Swift was right behind the curtains after Beyonce won her award, cause aren't they usually either back in their seats or somewhere in the back being photographed or interviewed? Hmm.....

I have to give it to Beyonce for allowing Taylor to come back out to finish her speech. That's pretty classy! But the damage was already done by what's his name.

Beyonce probably felt bad about what happened and sent someone to ask Taylor if she would like to finish her speech. The guest that win don't always return to their seats. They do interviews or start celebrating backstage. The press seeing what happened probably was all over her.

Ok, so then the question is, do the artists know that they're going to win? Cause if so, that's the only way she would have gotten word to someone to be ready to come back out. And I understand her not wanting to go back out there, but she seemed a little too prepared to come back out if you ask me.

Cause he is one. He's never appealed to me anyway. That was very messed up what he did. Even though i don't listen to country I don't agree with what that douche did. I do like Beyonce but that song was not worth any award imo. Aside from that i was glad to see that Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Eminem got awards.

Do you like fishsticks?

And for Lady GaGa, just admit it, take the pants off and show the world what you have and make it easier for everyone.

During Lady GaGa's speech she says "This is for god...and for the gays!". Eminem has a reaction like, "For the gays...I don't know about that one". She turns to him and he claps and nods his head like congradulating her on a great speech.

Default 2009 VMA awards

Did anybody watch the awards last night? I haven't watched them in several years, but tuned in last night to see the tribute Janet jackson did for her brother. That particular performance was less than what I had expected, but overall I was impressed with the entire show.

Taylor swift had a very nice performance that started in the subways below Radio City and involved her riding the subway to Radio City whilst singing live (you could tell it was not lip syncing.) Her vocal performance was good, and I was really impressed by the timing involved in the performance.

I'm no Lady Gaga fan, I don't hate her but have never been overly impressed by her either; but her performance of Paparazzi was unique and theatrical.

Pink did one of her arial rope acrobatic performances which never fail to impress.

Kanye West was the stain on the show last night. He once again showed what a completely classless person he can be when Taylor Swift was awarded the Best Female Video award. He went on stage, took the mic from her, and declared that Beyonce had made one of the "best videos of all time" with Single Ladies. Swift did not get to finish her acceptance speech and left the stage crying. Later in the show when Beyonce won Best Video of the Year, she recalled how winning her first VMA as a very young member of Destiny's Child was one of the most thrilling moments of her life. She invited Swift back up on stage to finish her acceptance speech.... where the crowd gave her a long standing ovation.

Wow, only one other person in this thread thought the Kanye bit was staged?! It so clearly was! It's gotten us talking about MTV (AGAIN!), it gives Taylor Swift alot of sympathy, it puts Kanye back in the headlines... there's no way this wasn't staged! They showed Pink right before her speech and they had multiple shots of Beyonce ready.

Anything noteworthy (performance?) happen with Eminem last night?

I bet you don't think we really landed on the moon either.

Unless Swift is an A-caliber actress suddenly (which judging by her video, she's not) she was clearly shocked. Beyonce looked genuinely embarrassed as well.

Anyway, I still think the coolest thing was Pink's performance. That is, assuming she wasn't lip-synching her performance. That was still pretty impressive.

Artists sometimes know they're going to win. Not always- but for some of the big ones they want to make sure they're around, etc. Consider how they got Brittney Spears' acceptance speech- do you think they surprised her right before a show?

Beyonce may or may not have known, but may have said, "hey, if I win..."

They had cameras up in Beyonce's grill all nite, so I think for that moment you note, was because she had just lost That specific award to Taylor anyway. So you think it was all staged? As well as the part with Beyonce' asking Taylor up later in the show? ALL of that was staged? Wow, a bit of a stretch.

Haven't seen it yet (I'll probably TiVo a rerun so I can skip through the dull parts), but the news wire is all aflutter this morning about Kanye West. I enjoy his music, but think as an individual he's a racist, arrogant tool. Last night's classless behavior just reinforces that... I'm hesitant to say "opinion" because he keeps giving so many opportunities to prove it as fact.

It doesn't surprise me that he got up there to commend Beyonce--she's talented, but it's been well-publicized that she and her "camp" take songs from lesser-known artists and re-record them without license or financial compensation (where I grew up we called that "stealing").

That said--and I am in no way defending Kanye, obviously--the fact that Taylor Swift won "best of" anything is surprising. Her singing voice is mediocre and she lacks range. I guess "best video" is not representative of her vocal talent, so it fits.

Jeez... WTH has happened to the music industry in the last 10 years?

I think Taylor Swift's reaction was being genuinely shocked, so I don't think that was staged at all. Although I guess it is possible, it is MTV, the home of reality TV. But as I mentioned earlier, I do find it suspicious that Swift was so prepared behind the curtain to come out when Beyonce won. Not saying she didn't deserve the moment, but had Kanye not mentioned her name, would she still have done that? I don't know.....

i normally don't care about stupid award shows but caught the incident last night with kanye with my gf. i am no beyonce fan, matter of fact, i hate her music and videos. i asked my gf whats so significant and good about her music video that made kanye call it one of the greatest videos ever. she said something about how the video is 1 take and 4-5 minutes of straight dancing. then i thought, am i suppose to be impressed? professional dancers dance for much longer without breaks, concert dancers do the same. all beyonce did in the video was do her famous beyonce hip grind over and over. unimpressed.

now on to taylor swift, its cool that she 'won' but seriously lets be serious, her video is garbage. cliche high school nerdy girl storyline who likes some dude and becomes pretty for one night. and this POS won. im not totally on kayne's side cause i dont think the beyonce video was any good but taylor swift winning? come on, lets be real. kanye west is rude and immature and disrespectful but he says what people are too scared to say.
