Well i disagree and im allowed to just like you’re allowed to feel how u feel. Im not buying the Abby character at all. Some how tougher than the 3 toughest “good guys” we’ve had on the show this far. Its laughable

Season 1 has a problem where it drops in quality after episode 5. Almost like they were rushing through the rest of production, running out of money or something. Significantly less action, less stakes than there should have been. Tommy tells them the road to the University would be filled with infected and raiders and we see literally nothing. Then moments that could be action packed are significantly diminished like the hospital shootout or stuff in the winter section.
Season 2 was consistently good, all the way throughout. The show had one slower episode where they allowed the audience to sort of recover after the brutality of episode 2, but otherwise the stakes remained high throughout, and there was always fantastic action to drive the story forward, while not compromising on the drama and character development. As I said in my comment earlier, there were only two minor nitpicks that I would have changed but otherwise I think the season was almost flawless, whereas I would only say that about the first 5 episodes of season 1. It ended even better than I expected. I wasn't even thinking about them showing the beginning of Abby's day 1 as a tease, but I absolutely love that. It gives the audience a clear indication that when the show comes back, we aren't going to get an immediate resolution of that cliffhanger. It's going to take some time. Which I think is smart, because you don't want to have audience expectations to be in one place for a year and a half or whatever and have them theorizing and all this about where Season 3 would start when it's going to start different than that. Now audiences know what to expect, so it won't be a massive whiplash when we get there. |

I think you're being a bit harsh. However, I did have some problems with the episode.

What about her gives you the impression that she is tougher? What is the problem with the Abby character? They haven deviated much from her at all besides her physique. She very much has been playing the beats from the game ini the limited time we've seen her

She got the better of them. Is she john wick? Joel can take out an entire hospital but lost to her. Tommy can take out Seattles finest but gets bested, off screen at that. And well Jesse who was arguably Jacksons toughest. It just feels convenient just to stay true to the game. I know im exaggerating a little but thats just how it comes across. I just cant buy Abby as this badass. And thats just some of my nitpicks of the season so far after how great season 1 was.

Again anyone is vulnerable to a gun. They werent in combat. Jesse ran into that bullet and there wasnt much he could do to avoid that. Its actually more believable in the show than game bc Jesse and Tommy arent together when she takes them out. And part of your argument is that Jesse is on of Jackson's toughest, well the same is true for Abby when it comes to the WLFs. She arguably has more combat training and experience than he. The WLF are a much larger organized militant group that has been at war and before that she was a Firefly. She's no slouch and in the game at least she becomes obsessed with taking on Joel which led [Show spoiler] Was your wife familiar with the story? Nice conclusion! My favorite episode in a while.
I only really have one issue, which has been a problem before: the convenient coincidences. This time it was [Show spoiler] Before that, it was [Show spoiler] It's some real "oh, come on!" BS.But apart from that, no notes! Exciting episode, has me eager for season 3 (a billion years from now). |

First of all, A-frickin-PLUS on production value. Every interior setting, the Seattle backdrops... just fantastic. Much more than I ever expected for television. Rain and night settings help hide some of the computer imagery, and the amount of rain used here was also great production value.
Secondly, as someone who has played the game and expected it to end exactly how it did (I didn't consider Abby's "Day One" to be teased but it was best that they did), I'm not exactly disappointed because it's exactly where I thought it would end. However, I cannot in all good faith expect somebody who didn't play the game or doesn't know the story to be okay with this. They won't get another episode for another two years, and after that they'll have to wait another 4-5 weeks just to see that part get resolved. I expect major dropoff in viewership next season. Some won't warm up to Abby, or gave it just long enough of a leash to not care a couple of years from now. All this said, man I see Kaitlyn Dever and I keep thinking that's an Ellie. Obviously same with Cailee Spaeny. Bella has moments of good, but not the highs that I think older Ellie could've had from a different actress. Even still, she's our show's Ellie. She is different from the one in the game. I have very much tolerated it, mostly accepted it, and somewhat embraced it. I think there were better choices out there though, one of them standing right opposite her. Back to the episode, I was happy how it slowed down. I think this show is allowed to stretch itself out more like that, more often. Too many things before this went by so quickly, but this seemed like it took its time. |
