Still, I like the Criterion release; I just don't think that the color timing is accurate.

I prefer the color timing on the Arrow because I paid for it first

I can't say personally, but the article with the DP, and color gels mentioned, do seem to line up with the colors seen in that scene. Nothing wrong with preferring the Arrow one though, especially if it's the grading you're more accustomed to.

I'm going to stick with the Criterion version because I own the 4K. My Arrow disc is only a Blu-ray. (Arrow's packaging is definitely cooler.)

Thank you for commenting, by the way.

This movie looks a ton better in 4K, and I think some of the visual appeal is a lot better on the Criterion than any other release, so even if you don't love the film, you get a great and really lovely, modern presentation of some gonzo filmmaking.

I will say again I always hated the way this film looked. It was too red and way too flat. Always. It always bugged me. The Criterion has given this thing new life. It's insane.

Every time I saw this film it was reddish, but that may have not been quite what they wanted either. No idea which is more accurate, but certain scenes as posted before look SO much better on the Criterion. Just night and day better aesthetically IMO.

You can find a review with comparison screenshots here. It's similar to the Arrow grade.
