I like the movie. Some of the script was... eh... but it was solid all around. And the animation was incredible!
Yes indeedy. The attention to detail was off the charts.

I saw this friday and i enjoyed it quite a bit.
Unfortunately, i had to go to a theater that i swore i'd never go to again, so my wife and i could pick up our kids from school on time.
I remember now why i boycotted it. Expensive matinees, poor sound, and the video was dull as dull could be. As soon as we got home, i saw a commercial for it and it looked way better.
Can someone tell me where i've heard/seen Christopher Plummer?

Ahh yes, that guy. He's been in a ton of stuff, but i remember him most from the 80's remake of Dragnet.

I saw this on Saturday and really enjoyed it. I'm curious to hear others thoughts on the ending.
[Show spoiler]I assumed that all the dolls had to be absorbed by the machine, since the machine had no soul. If this gave the machine a soul that it would perhaps create other life on Earth besides killer robots. It seemed like alot of life was lost for no reason, since all they had to do was pull that piece out of the machine. When the machine was finally destroyed, what was with the rain and the green droplets? Was it the souls of the others dolls raining down on Earth? Anyways, I would like hear your thoughts.

Animation, "cinematography", sound design and the score were all awesome. Elfman was involved, but it didnt have that patented Elfman sound...at all. The details in the sound design were breathtaking, really. Fabrics rubbing, leather wrinkling, metal bumping, breathing. Reference stuff. There are a few events in the film that some folks may find "odd", but they really worked for me. Big screen? Yes. :-)

A+ all the way.
Sorry I disgagree. Thought the animation was beautiful but the story was non-exsistent really. I would tell people to wait to rent out of the redbox.

Anybody get to see the preview of "The Fantastic Mr. Fox?" This along with "Where the Wild Things Are" looked pretty good. The vampire movie starring John C. Reily, not so much and i love John C.

I loved it. The sound designed was really great. There were lots of loud boomy noises that were very powerful sounding but not exagerated for effect. Similar to D9 you could sometimes tell it was made with a lower budget but they did a really good job on it. You couldn't really tell unless you nit pick.

Thats what I kinda said....a very simple survival story. Perhaps I should have emphasized it was very very simple.

[Show spoiler]Well it was a pretty difficult task to get that piece out. The rain drops...I'm not sure. I liked the ending....a sequel is possible. What did you think of the scene where they found the old victrola and played Judy Garland singing "Somewhere over the Rainbow"? I thought it was odd as hell, but I loved it.

Sorry to hear that. I have been to a theater where I could swear the projectors lamp was on it's last leg. Dark and gloomy....sucked. I'm glad you liked the movie though.

I was curious about one thing: The doctor created the 9 to preserve life and humanity by putting a little of his soul into each one (hoarcrux, anyone?), but exactly how are the 9 supposed to use that knowledge to start a new civilization? Or is that even the idea?

So is this film like Frodo in a Burlap Sack -- like Happy Feet was Frodo in a Penguin Suit?!?!

Seems promising, but I had to learn to love Happy Feet

Good question. I never tried to figure it out. I tend to leave my brain at the door when I see animated films, and if they surprise, well...thats a bonus. You are right...how would these sock puppets re-boot the human race????

Riff...what did you think of the Victrola scene?

I know!! It didn't say his name during the preview, but i'm pretty sure it's a Wes Anderson movie. The animation is pretty funky. It's like stop motion, but not nearly as smooth as NBC or Coraline. It looks very 70's.

I liked the victrola scene a lot. Although there was something rather creepy about it.

I just watched the trailer on Youtube. It's kinda herky jerky...like Wallace and Gromit....I kinda like it because it's odd and different.
