Pioneer has been releasing new Elite A/V receivers every year including the years 2016, 2017, and 2018. However, the Pioneer Elite SC-LX901, SC-LX801, and SC-LX701 are all 2016 models. In 2016 the Pioneer Elite SC-LX501 was released, 2017 the Pioneer Elite SC-LX502, and in 2018 the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX303 was released.
In 2017 there was no replacement released for the 2016 model Pioneer Elite SC-LX901, SC-LX801, and SC-LX701. Does anyone know if Pioneer plans on releasing a 2018 replacement for the Pioneer Elite SC-LX901, SC-LX801, and SC-LX701? Normally Pioneer comes out with a replacement A/V receiver every year for their high-end models, perhaps Pioneer has moved to every 2 years for a new high-end model. If we do not see a replacement A/V receiver in 2018 for the 2016 Pioneer high-end models, then this most likely means Pioneer has decided to only make medium end Elite A/V receivers like the VSX-LX503. With Dolby ATMOS and DTS X there is a need for 13.2 and 11.2 A/V receivers. I would also like to see Auro-3D come in a high-end Pioneer Elite A/V receiver. |

I am glad to see the 2016 Pioneer Elite SC-LX901, SC-LX801, and SC-LX701 all received a Dolby Vision HDR firmware update (HDMI 2.0b). Now with HDR10+ people well most likely need A/V Receivers that are HDMI 2.1 or later.

Standard Pioneer A/V receivers that were not Elite models have a 1 year parts and labor warranty. Between the years 2008-2015 all Pioneer Elite products including A/V receivers had a 2 year parts and labor warranty. Starting in 2016 all Pioneer Elite A/V receivers come with a 3 year parts and labor warranty. Pioneer A/V receivers have excellent build quality with the potential to last between 10-20+ years.
I know family members that still own a couple of 2008 Pioneer Elite A/V receivers that work perfectly fine after 10 years. Also a 2008 Yamaha A/V receiver is still running after 10 years. All A/V receivers are connected to a good quality pure sine wave UPS system. |

The Pioneer Elite SC-LX901, SC-LX801, and SC-LX701 are all 2016 A/V receivers that are 2 years old. Either Pioneer is no longer making high-end A/V receivers like the SC-LX901 anymore or consumers well need to have to wait until late 2019 to see a replacement to the flagship SC-LX901.
Hopefully in 2019 Pioneer well offer a 13.2 channel A/V receiver like the Denon AVR-X8500H with IMAX Enhanced certification. |

Disappointing. I assume they are waiting for HDMI 2.1 to be incorporated into their receiver line? I really hope they haven't abandoned the high end receiver market. I have owned Pioneer Elite receivers for over 20 years and have been extremely happy with their performance. Guess I may have to start looking at the Denon line.

I hope that in 2019 Pioneer well come out with a replacement to the 2016 Pioneer Elite SC-LX901, SC-LX801, and SC-LX701. The SC-LX901 is now 3 years old and hopefully a new 2019 flagship A/V receiver well be released as a replacement.
I see Pioneer has released some new entry level and medium level Elite A/V receivers for the year 2019. The Pioneer Elite VSX-LX504, VSX-LX304, and VSX-LX104. The advantage of the VSX-LX504 and VSX-LX304 is that those A/V receivers are IMAX Enhanced certified with a promised future firmware update. However there is no HDMI 2.1 and HDR10+ pass through feature is not mentioned in the specs. The VSX-LX504 and VSX-LX304 are using HDMI 2.0b with HDCP 2.2. Standard HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision HDR pass through is offered. In the ideal world a 2019 flagship Pioneer A/V receiver should offer 13.2 channels, HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3 copy protection, HDR10+ pass through, Auro 3D, HD radio, and IMAX enhanced certification. |

I recently picked up a LX-303 for $399 to meet my needs. My TV doesn't have HDMI 2.1 so for now, it really doesn't matter to me. The LX-304 and others don't have HDMI 2.1 either so I didn't see the need to spend more and got the LX-303; no real difference. It would have been nice to future proof, but who knows when we will see it.

The 2016 Pioneer Elite SC-LX801 and SC-LX701 have been officially discontinued and are out of production. Pioneer has moved those two A/V receivers to the no longer in production previous models area of their website. However the 2016 flagship Pioneer Elite SC-LX901 A/V receiver that offers up to 11.2 channels is still officially listed as a current model.
While Pioneer has released some new medium level 2019 Pioneer Elite A/V receivers this year, gone are the days that a new flagship A/V receiver is released every year (The demand for A/V receivers is lower in recent years as more people use the speakers in their flat panel screen or a sound bar instead. Many consumers that want a surround sound system do not want to have more than 7.1 or even 5.1 speakers in their home theater setup. A flagship A/V receiver that offers 11.2 or 13.2 channels is a small niche for those that want to install height and ceiling speakers to their exiting 7.1 or 7.2 surround sound setup ). It is now a possibility that maybe once every 5 years instead of once every year, that a new flagship Pioneer Elite A/V receiver will be released. If that theory is correct then a replacement to the 2016 Pioneer Elite SC-LX901 will not happen until sometime around September 2021. Another possibility is as demand for A/V receivers continue to decline that the 2016 Pioneer Elite SC-LX901 might be the last flagship A/V receiver offered by Pioneer as Pioneer makes the business decision to only offer lower to medium quality level A/V receivers with up to 9.2 channel support. Worst case scenario is that one day many consumer electronics companies completely stop making all A/V receivers (Hopefully that will never happen). |

On or around November 15th 2019 Pioneer released the flagship Pioneer SC-LX904 with a list price of $2,999.99. This is a replacement for the Pioneer SC-LX901.There is no replacement for the Pioneer SC-LX801, and for some reason Pioneer decided to not come out with the SC-LX804. However, there is a replacement for the Pioneer SC-LX701. The new 2019 Pioneer Elite SC-LX704 has a list price of $1,599.99.
The only major difference between the 2019 Pioneer SC-LX904 and 2016 Pioneer SC-LX901 appears to be that the new model has IMAX enhanced feature. I was hoping that one day Pioneer would offer 13.2 channels, Auro 3D, and HD radio. The 2018 Denon AVR-X8500H has Auro 3D, and 13.2 channels. However, it also has a $1,000 higher list price of $3,999 when compared to the Pioneer SC-LX904. https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/P...lite+Receivers |

Happy to say I'm the proud owner of a used LX-801. Nabbed it for $325 at a Nashville McKay's. They sell everything from used electronics to movies, books, etc. So far it runs like a top and after running the calibration on my current speaker setup, WOW. Did the firmware updates with no issues. Planning to get a few upfiring speakers so I can get the Dolby Atmos experience.
